faaaaaar should be 6... this is so great to watch tbh. Go Holland!
This could really demoralise spain.. Chile might just do it.
Robben has been immense.

what a statement from Holland.
Kudos to Van Gal. Spain were nowhere to be seen in the second half.

It's so difficult to know... or even guess, lol.
The more I look at the Netherland's squad, the more I think they've got the quality in places they need it and the inexperienced players are able to fill in the gaps.
Fußball wrote:Art Morte wrote:I'm in the boat that thinks Spain won't do that well.
They lack proper wide players and I don't know if their strikers suit their style. Also some of their stars are past their peak and may lack the hunger to work their socks off in the Brasil heat.
I don't get posts like this. They are playing a deliberate narrow formation with Iniesta and Silva as false wingers since 2008. It's what they are and it isn't new.
I don't think they are past their peak either. Alba, Pique, Ramos, Azpi, Busquets, Iniesta, Silva, Fabregas, Koke, Costa, Pedro aren't past their peak. They are actually all in their prime years. Xabi is 32 which is a great age. Just 2 months ago he played the game of his life against Bayern. Not a has-been yet. Question marks over Xavi as he's 34 now but he'll do fine in a handful of games. He's had 2 months of rest now. People talk like they are Brazil 2006 or something where Ronaldo was playing with a belly, Cafu was about 45 and Roberto Carlos was tying his shoes during a freekick.
What a game that was! The Netherlands had the perfect game plan and just LOL @ Pique, Ramos and Casillas.
This is great!

The most amazing thing about this match is that the score line actually flatters Spain. They could have lost by more and the penalty they received was very soft.

ffs, congratsMadvillain wrote:I read that Vidal is almost certainly out of the picture. I heard something about a new system too? I'm still worried about their pressing and energetic play, but it's good news. The game against Spain worries me less. I'm not saying that it's in the bag or anything, just that I think the 5-3-2 will be a pain for them to deal with.

Largely because Holland kept going like maniacs right to the last minute as if each goal made up for 2010

Calma. Historically Spain never win their first group game whenever they won the World Cup. This is a good omen.

Re: World Cup: Group B discussion
Spain were too complacent, especially after going in front. They had chances to kill the game off but din't take their chances. This game also confirm what most people knew, Defensively they are not all that.
Spain don't concede a lot of goals because they tend to hog the ball most of the time. If you have a go at Ramos and Pique, you have a good chance.

Spain's GD taken a big battering.
Even we beat Chile and Australia, shit could still happen if Chile beats Netherlands and Australia.
Gonna hope for a draw in the next game.

no such thing as Brazil-Spain, Chile will destroy those mofos.
tbf, thinking again about it, Netherlands or Chile could be even worse than Spain.

Woah... what a match! Did not expect anything like that at all!
Very surprised. Robben was "magic"... beautiful goals!
I have to admit I underestimated the Dutch team. I was utterly surprised by their performance today!

I'm not sure if Holland should keep this formation and game plan against other opposition. This was tailor-made against Spain. Lots of players in center of the park, three CBs, running quickly through Spain's immobile midfield. Teams with good wide players - like Chile or Brazil - could have much more joy against Holland's set-up of tonight.

I am sure LVG will use something else for other teams. He was the invisible player on the pitch today and that made a lot of difference he is BOSS

Re: World Cup: Group B discussion
Why both teams wore away kit.
• For each match, the team listed first (on FIFA's website) is designated as the home side.
• Since this match is listed as "Spain v Netherlands", Spain receives first choice of which kit to wear.
• Spain selects all-red.
• Since Holland's Orange clashes with red, Holland must switch to blue.
• But according to the regulations, we now have a case of dark colored kit v dark colored kit.
• With Spain's alternate kit being all-black, FIFA inform Spain and their kit manufacturer (Adidas) that a light colored kit needs to be submitted to comply with FIFA regulations.
• All-white is chosen and will be worn against Holland.
• This means Holland can switch to orange right? Wrong. Orange is deemed to be Holland's light colored kit, so white v orange would mean light kit v light kit.
• For this match, Spain will wear white and Holland will dress in blue.
