Whatyu talkin' bout? I was the best poster since day 1. Should have won at least 1 GL d'Or if not for MT's statpadding in small competitions like "Summer Transfer Thread" without ever proving himself in big competitons like "Jose Mourinho Appreciation Thread". :coffee:

That's football for you Smile

But it's also a little bit funny.

What I also find a little funny is Barcelona's apparent willingness to sell Fabregas.

in 2011: "He's our boy, castaway so young, now shining elsewhere, we must bring him back home Proud "

in 2014: "Son, we think you should move out - again".

Back then I'm sure they thought he would be some sort of long term Xavi replacement. Turns out he's different type of player who doesn't really fit in.

Cannavaro was 33 when he moved and he moved to a completely dysfunctional Madrid side. You know, those glory days when they used to ship in 4 goals against Liverpool and get their asses handed to them by Lyon regularly.

High line or deep line, it is all about organization and collective team play. Mascherano isn't even a defender to begin with, neither deep or high or middle line but he's actually doing an acceptable job apart from getting bullied in the air and some positional errors. Benatia would be a huge upgrade. Obviously if the front 6 plays like we play now you can get prime Maldini and it won't change anything.

Also the alternative is David Luiz. So take our money pls. Laughing

Name me one Serie A center back who walked into La Liga, embraced the high line, and absolutely goated like you think Benatia will at the kinda money Barca is offering. Laughing

You're assuming that Benatia can adapt to a high line when he's never played one in his career. It's very possible that he's simply good enough to do so and I may be selling him short here as a result, but we don't know that for sure, do we? That's my point here. A Barca in transition needs a good deal of pragmatism and practicality. A FIFA-esque transfer like this flies in the face of that.

Well, I don't think it's relevant what other Serie A defenders have done as there is no connection to Benatia's abilities. Nor does the current Roma side play some sort of diametrically different defensive system à la catenaccio like a classic 90s Serie A team where doubts may be warranted. Roma are actually playing quite a high line themselves. Here is your avg. positioning against Juventus:

Been done before, no problem.

They made a mistake, maybe they finally are accepting it and correcting it. The only thing worse than making a mistake, is persisting with it.

A huge advantage to how Roma have defended this season has been how they've adapted to what's in front of their defense. We don't always play a high line against everyone like we did under LE, which is absolutely suicidal in Serie A when you have provincial sides that love to counterattack. Garcia adapts his tactics to match that of his opponent. Where a high line has been warranted, it has been used. Where sitting deeper has been warranted it has also been used. Can the same be said for LE should Benatia be brought in? Based on current evidence, I really don't think so.

Post by Onyx Tue May 20, 2014 12:31 am

Liverpool defender Daniel Agger has voiced his frustration at failing to nail down a regular starting place under Brendan Rodgers this season.

While the club challenged for the Premier League title, the Denmark international was often overlooked for a starting spot in favour of Mamadou Sakho and Martin Skrtel, stating Rodgers did not feel he was "good enough".

Agger stopped short of confirming any plans to leave Anfield the summer but warned he would not be content to be a substitute next season.

Asked about being benched for the crucial late fixtures against Chelsea and Manchester City, he told Ekstra Bladet: "It definitely wasn't great. But I don't make the decisions. I think it is because the manager doesn't think that I'm good enough.

"[My future at Liverpool is] up to the manager. I can't go and put myself on the team sheet.

"I'm no-one's third choice."

Agger moved to Liverpool in 2006 from Brondby and has made 232 appearances during his time with the club - winning the FA Cup and the Capital One Cup.

Manchester City's transfer activity will not be stifled this summer despite facing a spending cap as a result of UEFA sanctions, insists the club chairman.

City's net outlay on players this summer has been limited to £49million as one of their punishments for breaching financial fair play regulations, but the newly-crowned Premier League champions seem determined as ever to build on their dominance.

"We know exactly what needs to be done," City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak told City TV.

"We know exactly the players that need to go and the players that need to come in, the areas that need to be strengthened, the players that we intend to bring in to fill these areas.

"I can tell our fans to expect, as last year, an efficient and swift execution plan. We will have, after the World Cup, a good pre-season and we will go into the season very ready, as we did last year, to compete for four championships."
