Shocking World Cup snubs
So most provisional lists for countries are out.
Notable snubs: Gundogan, Gomez, Coutinho, Lucas Moura
Errr why did these players not make their squad lists? Only one I can understand is Lucas
Who else btw?

Kaká. With the way he has played this season and carried Milan's dimensional dynamic on his back has been astounding. Though I expected this considering Scolari scouted him in the first derby to which an unfit Kaká did not perform, thus being the end the story. Shame.

Re: Shocking World Cup snubs
None of the Brazil exclusions were shocking actually. Anyone who has been following Brazil after the Confederations Cup could the entire 23 man squad list coming from a mile away. But that does not mean the squad is 100% right.
Filipe Luis>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Maxwell in every single facet. Why Scolari prefers Maxwell over the much superior and younger Luis is beyond me.
And there is more than one CB who is more deserving of a call up than Henrique.
Diego Alves cannot possibly do anything more to get a call up.
Lima deserved a chance to prove himself on friendlies, he is much better than that scrub Jo. Same for Coutinho.
I was shocked at Gomez's exclusion. I thought that like Khedira his place was assured irregardless of his injuries.
And did Ter Stegen have a bad season? I thought he was first choice to backup Neuer.

Same thing, Kiessling's snub is wrong but not shocking. Loew has been ignoring him for eternity.

Re: Shocking World Cup snubs
Nobody wanted diego alves to get called up until last weekend.if he did get the call, then the media would take a dump on scolari's head because everyone agrees that victor and jefferson should be called up.funny enough, cesar is the most questioned player in our fanbase

True. But it never stops being shocking for me, especially now that he's not even taking Gomez.

Which would explain Meyer's call up, then?
Does anyone know how good the kid is? Never heard of him before.

Re: Shocking World Cup snubs
Gündogan and Gomez were injured for too long. As there are some more injury risks in the squad, two more would have been even unwiser.

Re: Shocking World Cup snubs
Max Meyer is the next hot kid of the Schalker Knappenschmiede. He's already pretty good, although Jens Keller tries not to burn him out, so he uses him carefully in the first team. But a really promising AM, that boy. He can play CAM and both wings, btw.Blue Barrett wrote:Which would explain Meyer's call up, then?

Max Meyer happens to be Schalke's brightest talent and definitely more so than Julian Draxler. While not appearing much under Keller he's impressed every time and has contributed to a handful of points for Schalke.
Many other players who should be questioned rather than Meyer.

This is underselling Draxler, but I would definitely question Meyer and Goretzka for this team...there are better players around right now. Even young ones. Johannes Geis for example should make the team over either of those two.

Re: Shocking World Cup snubs
I beg to differ. Max Meyer certainly is a good choice, especially as he even already has CL experience at his tender age. And 10 goals and 4 assists in 44 matches (albeit only 2850 minutes playing time) are not to be scoffed at either.El Cujo wrote:This is underselling Draxler, but I would definitely question Meyer and Goretzka for this team...there are better players around right now. I simply think Draxler is quite overrated and his average season did little to prove that notion wrong. I disagree about the call of Meyer as a case can be made for Goretzka. Leon has had a solid season and is very talented yet at the moment all too raw and inexperienced for the call-up, providing such merit to someone as unproven as him can set a bad example. Though nonetheless he can be a useful asset provided that Löw uses him correctly and in timing.

Draxler isn't overrated IMO. Meyer and Goretzka are both exceptional talents with bright futures but it is early for them still. Like I said there are better options. Johannes Geis is the best player on a Mainz 05 side that isn't great, and has them challenging for Europe this year and he is also only 20 years old.

I'm not scoffing at them, and I don't think that Meyer or Goretzka are bad players by any stretch. I just don't think they are better than other options out there, but I don't think that they make the final team anyway.

Re: Shocking World Cup snubs
I didn't think you were scoffing at them - it was just a figure of speech underlining that I think Max Meyer would add some goal threat, too. Johannes Geis plays a little less attacking, of course, so you can't interchange Geis and Meyer 1:1.El Cujo wrote:I'm not scoffing at them, and I don't think that Meyer or Goretzka are bad players by any stretch. I agree that both Meyer and Goretzka will probably mainly play in the Poland friendly and get omitted for the final call-up, but they will certainly become viable options for the Euro 2016.

Re: Shocking World Cup snubs
Geis and Meyer/Goretzka are different kind of players, Geis is a defensive midfielder where there are Khedira, Bender and Lahm already, so there's no place for Geis or even Sven Bender.
But there was space for a CM and an AM therefore Meyer/Goretzka were called up. Anyway it is not known yet if these two will really travel.
