144th Revierderby: Dortmund vs Schalke

Contrary to common belief, not Bayern vs Dortmund is the biggest rivalry* in the Bundesliga, but Dortmund vs. Schalke.

Today is the 144th clash of the two in competitive matches (over all leagues and cups where they met before), of which Schalke won 57, Dortmund won 49 with 37 draws so far.

In the Bundesliga, the number is a little lower, there we have the 84th meeting of the two tomorrow. Of the former 83 meetings, Dortmund won 30, Schalke 29, with 24 draws.

The rivalry is so big that the supporters refer to the hometown of their 'enemy' as the 'forbidden town', the BVB supporters calling Schalke "Herne-West" and the Schalke fans referring to Dortmund as "Lüdenscheidt-Nord", both being rather unremarkable parts of small towns in the vicinity of their targets.

Keep geared up for the big clash of  "Schwatzgelb" (Black-yellow in the Ruhr dialect) "Königsblau" (Royal-blue) in the Signal-Iduna-Park!

*) I will omit the derbies here that were big in the past but lost importance since one participant is not in the BL anymore

Goretzka pressing Durm into his own half consistently as the youngster doesn't seem to be able to handle it. Hummels doing a fantastic job of cleaning up Schalke's aerial threat and Huntelaar.

Frustrating for youths in Germany and Italia.

Lack of chances so far in the first half. Both teams defending well.

Referee has been very biased so far, hopefully he won't have to make a 50-50 call.

It's the reason why German Clubs are so against the the UEFA Youth CL aka NextGen was a success let's try and cash in on that.

Well, in 2 months, Leon Goretzka will have finished his Abitur, and then he can fully concentrate on his football.

By the way, another youngster, Philipp Max, a 20 year old LB, got a 1 minute debut in the BL for Schalke today. Here we have a player who transferred from Bayern U17 to the Schalke U19 initially. Schalke weakening the Bayern youth
