Derby Time - the Revierderby awaits! Empty Derby Time - the Revierderby awaits!

Derby Time - the 82nd Revierderby awaits!

Many people who only recently discovered the Bundesliga consider Bayern - Dortmund as "the" derby in Germany. This is very wrong though. The biggest derby in Germany is not red vs yellow, but it is royal blue vs yellow and black.

This weekend features the 82nd Revierderby in the Bundesliga between FC Schalke 04 and Borussia Dortmund. So far Dortmund won 29 of the duels while Schalke won 28 of them, with 24 matches ending in a draw.

The last derby in Dortmund in October 2012 was won by Schalke 2:1, so Dortmund are out for revenge. On the other hand, Dortmund have some injury concerns and Schalke are of course burning to defeat their 'mortal enemy' at home Auf Schalke, and they desperately need the 3 points to stay in contention for the CL spots of the Bundesliga.

I think we can look forward to a hotly contested match on Saturday!

Bundesliga.com has a special about the derby:

http://www.bundesliga.com/en/liga/news/2012/0000243773.php

(They write "142th Revierderby" as they count the other matches where they met outside the Bundesliga, too, while I only counted the BL derbies above)

Schalke will never rest players for the Revierderby. These are the most important matches of the season, not some lowly CL games Very Happy

Schalke did win the first leg of the Revierderby this season though, so I wouldn't be too quick to write them off.

Can't wait for this!

Schalke had a full week to prepare for this while Dortmund had a CL game inbetween, hope the players can find the extra energy for this one. It's bloody important to win after losing at home this season.

Hummels will be back after missing two matches but Bender might miss out and Kehl played with an injury aswell so we might see Sahin start.

Today's the day - Schwarzgelb (=black-yellow) clashes with Königsblau (=royal blue) for the 85th Revierderby (some say 145th Revierderby, but the number 85 refers to the duels in the Bundesliga).

Both teams are seriously depleted, but as the injuries hit both teams alike, this shouldn't really be too much of an issue.

Some stats:

- The last Revierderby ended with a scoreless draw.

- Jürgen Klopp leads Dortmund into his 13th Revierderby. So far he got only 4 wins against Schalke.

- The highest win in the derby was a 7:0 of Dortmund at home in 1966. Schalke's highest win against Dortmund was a 6:1 at home in 1985.

- So far the results in the Bundesliga were 30 wins by Dortmund, 29 wins by Schalke and 25 draws.

- In the last Revierderby, 3000 policemen and 1000 stadium security guards were on duty. As both Schalke and Dortmund threatened the fans to shut them out for the next derby if there were fights, it was surprisingly peaceful (only two persons arrested).

Is Hummels fit or nah? That set peice marking of Matip was shocking. He's better than that.

@Franchise
Well, looks as if they need to work on their coordination within the defense now that Mats Hummels is back. Stuff like this unfortunately often needs one match or two.

@Robespierre
I can understand that Schalke will not have many Inter fans Razz

I felt like it was simple bad marking RWO. He had Matip all the way, Matip went behind him and Hummels failed to react. Didnt even get off the ground.

Well, Mats Hummels does need one or the other match to be back to 100%. IIRC this was the same when he was injured for a while the last time. As soon as he is back to 100%, he is pretty much indispensable again for Dortmund.

When a striker returns from injury, he often takes a while until he scores again too - it is just the fate of a defender (or goalkeeper) that their initial problems often lead to goals against.
