I think the Piggy-Kroos-Lham midfield is very stale. None of those guys can beat their marker in 1v1 in the last third to create a chance, which theoritically Thiago or Gotze can do. Maybe Pep got it wrong there to begin the game. Not enough movements from the middle to trouble man utd CMs, they were quite at ease defending (except for big fel).

About Kroos, is it true that he was upset at being subbed out tonight as well?

Bayern arent a cm team though so that is irrrelevant. Ever since van Gaal came in they are wing based. Most of their attacks are through the wings. Last year they created all their chances from the wing and crossing in. No surprise than Mandzukic was invloved with his heading. He should be starting that next game tbh.

Their build up is slower than it was last year, so the wing play has regressed. I dont even see Ribery anymore to be quite honest, it's the Robben show now. he is the one that is best served by thi new style of play because he can cut and dare i say, better than ribery in positional attack. his off the balls movements that find him inside the box are also something ribery doesnt do quite as well (like the way he moved behind the CF in CL finals).

What they were under jupp last year, they arent anymore. They do try to go through the middle a lot more because a set defense is quite hard to break down. They tried, they tried, but didnt go anywhere.

Alaba-Ribery were stronger at the end of last year, not sure if this is all due to systematic changes but also to form.

But you're right as in a way it's like the team is trying something at the moment that hasn't really sunk in, and then they play it safe above all.

Maybe missing Schweini will not be so terrible for a change, as I agree Schweini, Kroos plus Lahm is too much control and too less penetration and danger.

But the most annoying thing at the moment is that our attacking players don't seem to find each other in the box anymore, it's like the knowledge and instinct where to cross/pass, who runs where has been lost.

If Bayern had gone out and annihilated Man United, a proper all out thrashing, it might have been enough to see Moyes sacked and replaced with someone competent by next Wednesday, making Pep's job that little bit harder and potentially setting up a comeback. By ordering Bayern to take it easy and make United look good, it's lulled the board into a false sense of security, ensuring Moyes will at least be at the helm when United travel to Germany next week

Might not be the most eloquent statement but I think any lover of football will agree with the sentiment. The problem is that in football points/goals are inherently rare, so you can get outcomes which hardly reflect the balance of play. Makes it ripe for abuse by guerilla park the bus tactics. The fact remains that football is a spectacle and for a team worth hundreds of millions to play like a a championship side is a disgrace. Leave it to an Indian to give respect to principle and not outcome

Year after year in the CL English teams, on the big night, refuse to do anything other than sit back and "try an nick one" as they say.

It's bayerns fault the match looked so bad last night.
Utd had an injury hit defence, then gifts and buttner go off injured.
How can utd counter attack if Bayern are aimlessly playing one twos 40 yards from goal? It was a joke of a Bayern performance.
Peps wants to keep the ball in midfield to bring out the defensive cover and isolate the fullbacks, when this didn't happen he was stumped. You're not playing Leverkusen now pep.
English clubs have a good record at the Allianz, but there was always an asterix next to the results when they struggled to break those sides down or get caught on numerous counters.
IMO Bayern come with a reputation which won those games in the first leg.. When the English sides learned they could live with them it was a bit too late. Well now it's not too late.
Well have out defence intact so we can push a higher line, we won't have to cover the defence so much so can put pressure on the ball higher up. We can play kagawa and januzai and take advantage of the gaps left by overlapping fullbacks.
We've struggled at home all season but have the best away record in the league, olympiakos apart we've performed to a high level in Europe thus far. Let's see what happens.
Sweiny to Ribery who plays a one two with alaba and passes back to Kris's who switches it to rafina who passes it to Robben who either tries a slide rule pass or a shot. Someone's Ribera would switch to support.
