Manchester United want to avoid Bayern Munich in the Champions League
Former Bayern Munich coach Ottmar Hitzfeld has revealed that he has spoken to Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson recently - and that the Scottish manager admitted he was not keen on meeting the Bundesliga leaders in the Champions League.
The Bavarian outfit have marched to the summit of their domestic division, and sit on top of Group A in the continent's top club competition.
The Premier League holders on the other hand are going through a shaky period after being dispatched ruthlessly 6-1 at Old Trafford by rivals Manchester City, and have been inconsistent in Europe.
The Switzerland national trainer was present at United's heavy derby defeat, and has spoken of a conversation he held with Ferguson.
"He said that he really liked [Bayern] so far this season and sees them as major competitors to win the Champions League. He wants to avoid them for as long as possible," the 62-year-old told Bild.
The British side were knocked out of the tournament by the Allianz Arena team back in 2009-10, with Arjen Robben scoring the decisive goal. Hitzfeld feels the Netherlands international is an important player for Jupp Heynckes' men.
"Robben is really important. With him, they are unpredictable and have a more decisive weapon," he stated.
The current Bundesliga leaders host highly-fancied Napoli in the Champions League on Wednesday, and the Baden born coach feels that the 1-1 draw between the sides in Italy two weeks ago was a positive showing.
"In the mean streets of Naples, 1-1 is a good result. Bayern dominated Napoli away. Rarely have I seen a team so dominant in the Champions League and the Bundesliga. This we saw against Manchester City," he concluded.

I am pretty sure everyone wants to avoid Bayern.......
Even Madrid and Barca would prefer not to face them imo.

Shakhtar seems pretty disappointing to me.
I expected them to lead their group.

The "Are Ribery and Robben Going to Terrorize Manchester?" Thread..
Brings so much memories.
So much madness after Robben spanked that ball.

First of all no one said they are scared of any team.
Hitzfield spoke to Ferguson who told him that he will like to avoid Bayern at all cost in CPL.
Maybe that is because of how Bayern dealt with City and how City destroyed United who in turn destroyed Arsenal.

This, and I'm pretty sure Bayern want to avoid Barca, Real, ManU (yes, this can go both ways), Chelsea and any other big name as long as they can.
It's the UCL, everyone wants an easy ride to the final, and preferrably through that as well. It doesn't mean that SAF thinks they can't beat Bayern, it just means he'd rather play Kazan, and who can blame him?
