He didn't have many chances tonight, but Jackson did impress me with his hold up play and work rate. I'd certainly feel more confident about not conceding an away goal without him playing.

Jackson rarely influences game yet when given a chance he is devastating given his strength, two-footed finishing and eye for the spectacular. Captain Fernando out is also a loss.

Really hope Emery won't freak out with a 4-4-2 pre Pijuan.

Unfortunately I didn't (could of but) view the match due to Porto-Sevilla and Lyon-Juventus my priorities so I could not see how Sommer, Frei, Stocker or anyone from Valencia performed. 3-0 vs a Valencia who have been resurgent under Pizzi is excellent. I was rather shocked given Basel's stadium was direly empty while Valencia would have surely gone cautious for the return in the Mestalla yet I'm not surprised. One thing I do know is Yakin being the ruthless man he is, in all likeness deployed a Basel to acquire as many goals before the Mestalla. Strange considering Basel's somewhat heavy injury list.

Basel whether in the Champions League or Europa League, have earned a steady pedigree to which all top teams must watch out for.

They will lose Sommer, Stocker (likely) Frei and inevitably, Murat Yakin yet him and his predecessors have built a strong blueprint to continue the success, similar to what Klopp or Wenger do.

Yeah, in a way it is a pity that Basel always bleed out each season, but nonetheless they manage to prevail. I just hope they will get a good new GK as replacement for Yann Sommer, as he has been crucial for quite some matches.

@che

Basel were without 8 starters plus P.Degen, M.Delgado and F.Schär were also subbed off due to injuries, and Muri had to bring even one of the 17 year old kids for lack of first team players.

Naw, that must be Yann Sommer since Basel is in the EL - only 1 goal against in the 5 matches Basel played, while they were up against RB Salzburg and Valencia among them.
