Di Maria just has a better engine lol.. Ozil is a better passer/playmaker, better decision maker, better ball control, better finisher..

all that shit means absolutely 0. Im gonna tell you one thing, remove Di Maria from our line up, plug in Ozil, and we are worse off.

Since when is having a better engine not important? let's have a game. take the little boy Thiago Alcantara for example, he has better control, dribbling, technique, playmaking (whatever that is), finishing than Gundogan 2013 for example, yet you wanna know who is the better player? same with piggy, or vidal, yet he is not half the player those guys are.

im not talking about decision making because at the end of the day it's how one player decides to use his abilities for the good of the team. And while Di Maria has gotten that part wrong a lot in the past, you can also see that he has figured it out, specially in position he currently plays in.

anyway, my point is, being as reductive as looking at abilities to compare football is one step below going to whoscored and checking out who has the better rating.

If Ancelotti gave Ozil 100% support and made him a focal point of the team I think he could have repeated his form from 2 seasons ago.. I don't ever see Di Maria reaching that level

and what level was that? you mean when Kroos schooled him in CL? where he was completely lost at CAM and Mourinho had to pull Di Maria center to cope with the charge of our midfield getting ramed all kind of ways? that level?

look, i think we get lost in the "beauty" of how some players look when they play but it's just one aspect of football.

How does Ozil still get acknowledged when he has been shat at Arsenal since November, when his absence at Real has not been felt, and when di Maria has clearly been better is beyond me.

People's obsession with anything German these days is unbelievable.

Saying Ozil could have offered anything close to Di Maria's one man show in the classico is the funny shrooms talking. I like Ozil, but he doesn't have it in him to carry a team in his back like Di Maria did with Madrid.

oh and let's not forget that football is a sports. Being a great footballer means that you have to be a great athlete in the first place. If you cant run to support your team every way you can, that's your problem.

Bale only knows how to run in direct lines and not appreciating the space he afforded to him given his lack of awareness when constricted. Di Maria even with his limits exploits those spaces handily and uses his athleticism on many more dimensions.

On-Topic: 100% agreed with Nick. Cannot see what Oezil would have added to this Madrid bar his vision to the final ball as he simply wouldn't be needed. My respect for Di Maria has risen two-fold this season given how he has evolved from an obsolete wide-man in an evolving Madrid to a big-game dynamo and done in centrally out of his natural comfort zone.

How far has Di Maria come? Doesnt matter where he plays, same work rate, same effort, same aggressiveness. Terrific player, might be our most impactful player this season.

Di Maria has been immense this season. His bone head tendencies are still there but the guy is such a huge asset to this team.

Yeh, he's still a bit haphazard and headless at times, however he's definitely improved compared to when he played at RW.

When he plays on the left, it sort of opens up the pitch for him to dribble better, compared to to RW where he could only cut in.

RW just wasn't meant for him to begin with. How many one footed players thrive at RW when they are left footed?

But no doubt, he has been improving every season with us. Said it from the start that selling Özil would be wiser than Di Maria. Always respected Di Maria more as a player, both for his attitude and his skill.

Ozil was so good under Mou though for Real, hard to make sense of it at the time, but Real so packed with stars, they dont miss him, same as Higuain and Callejon obviously.

Great to see Di Maria getting all the praise he deserves.

Sorry I disagree. He's a better talent and always has been. Ozil is just a smarter player and this year di maria pretty much kills him in every aspect imaginable.

he's way better physically. not only has he better stamina, he has a way better physique. ozil's touch and ball control put him over di maria in terms of talent imo

Wtf does talent mean? People need to stop using that useless word. Di María fits Madrid better because he can do something out of nothing. Ozil needs other players to be on point. Di Maria is also far stronger mentally and works almost 3 times as hard.

Di Maria is totally superior to Ozil, stop being a fanboy.
