Will Vidic succeed in Italy?
So its official that Vidic will be playing for Inter next season. At his best a few years back I think he was the best CB. I remember him like winning EVERY header in a freakin match that got pumped inside the Man U penalty box, I just couldnt believe it. Hes 32 and his level has dropped, but I cant help but think his style is very suitable for Italy since the game is just more slow and static and teams dont push their defense very high? Although im not sure and havent really watched Inter for a while.
As always, await the many experts opinions here Thanks.

Re: Will Vidic succeed in Italy?
funny thing is, how come he was perhaps the best CB in the PL when he was so slow? I thought u had to be Usain Bolt to succeed in the PL

Think it was 3 seasons ago or whenever it was when Giggs disgracefully won the player of the year award ahead of him, my god he was a monster that season and easily the best CB in the world.

Re: Will Vidic succeed in Italy?
I guess he'll do all right, but at the same time thinking that Inter could have gotten someone younger and as good for the same wages (or less). Retirement home and all that comes to mind, no offense...

I think he will be fine. Only recently when I saw Man Utd, he was the only one you could say had a respectable performance. That doesnt mean much these days but while he isnt Vidic of old, he isnt quite "finished" yet.

Defensively as a team we have been very poor this season. However, there have been matches where he has played well and still shows he has it. He can't play every game, but if he's rested properly I think he will succeed.

Re: Will Vidic succeed in Italy?
I just wonder what his motivation will be... Inter don't look like challenging for any major trophies in the next few years. Great if he goes there to try his absolute best, but it could be a case of taking it easy with a nice paycheck for the last couple of years. We'll see.

Only if paired with Puyol.

I would love to see that. Its a hard choice for fans, whether we want Puyol as a one man club, or to see him play more at Inter or something. Football as we know goes in cycles, hopefully Inter can bounce back and dont go into a bad slump for too long. I like Vidic and it would be good to see him help them in that process.

Re: Will Vidic succeed in Italy?
Maybe Vidic lost a step or two due to age but he doesnt lack tactical intelligence so he will be at home in Serie A. The question is will Vidic succeed at Inter ? If Mazzari remains we'll be playing a 3 man defense, a system that Vidic never played before so it remains to be seen whether he has what it takes to adjust his game at this point of his career. Vidic will partner Rolando and Juan Jesus. Both are very good defenders but non is world class. Jesus is also inexperienced and is suspect to the odd mistake. This year we mostly conceded due to 1) lack of organization 2) Individual mistakes 3) Crappy defending from the wings 4) A fast counter attack. Vidic can be an improvement in terms of point 1 and 2. Not so much with 3 and 4.
All in all I think he should do well if he adjusts his game to Mazzari's tactics. I would've preferred if we signed a younger guy, but since he will be replacing a 35 year old Samuel he will be an improvement in that regard.

Nice details there zizzle. Mazzari's Napoli and this Inter team tend to give the feeling of weaker defensively than attacking of cos. Looks like Vidic has hard work ahead.

I wouldn't be so sure Mazzarri will be the one coaching Inter when Vidic arrives.

tbh I don't think he will come just fior a nice paycheck. it wouldn't be typical od vidic and infact he asked to draw up a dossier about on all the players based in Serie A (expecially the forwards) as well as the teams and relevant information.
but why anyway? this year he plays almost all matches, just the last year the half , but anyway not as Chivu or this Samuel ..I think this opinion is exaggerated...zarola wrote:I think he will just be injured the whole time to be honest

Well our track record with injuries is not very encouraging, especially with older players.

Re: Will Vidic succeed in Italy?
last year everything was boosted by awful athletic training by Stramaccioni , on the other hand this year the situation is enough normal and it is not only because of Europa League.
Prondelli (the fitness coach of Mazzarri staff) is a good security in it , I remember to Napoli too. This is one of few things that I appreciate of Mazzarri tbh .
Anyway yes he must be managed well if we go in Europa League not 3 matches every week necessarily, for example, but I am quite confident he will play more matches than Samuel-Chivu together, he has to replace them on the other hand.

I don't know the offside traps, the positioning training and most mainly the back 3 at inter... I doubt it

I can't believe Walter Samuel and Christian Chivu are still playing, let alone playing for Inter.

On Chivu, he must be one of the most overrated players ever, and yet still gets so much status...

Re: Will Vidic succeed in Italy?
Chivu retired in January. The only reason we never forced him out after the triple is because he almost died for our colors, literally. Samuel on the other hand is still beasting despite his age (when he's fit that is)

Re: Will Vidic succeed in Italy?
but Samuel he is still GOAT when he plays, unfurtonately only 7 matches this year but when he played Inter never lost , even to Firenze and Roma when Inter conceded only 1 goal just for Handanovic ' s mistake.
we have re-obtained defensive solidity with him , still better thn 80% of defenders.
Chivu 0 matches insetad , but he is not a football player since 2 years ...
