Don't Porto win that league virtually every year?

I'd say Ligue 1. PSG and maybe Monaco would walk the Primeira Liga as well even with Porto and Benfica.

In the last decade they've won 8 of 10, with Benfica winning the other two, so yes. However this season it seems Benfica will win it.

Re: Portuguese league vs league 1
There's a reason why people include Ligue 1 when they say the top 5 leagues (along with the obvious) and not the Portuguese League.

Re: Portuguese league vs league 1
i don't think that Porto and Benfica have anything to envy Ligue 1 sides other than PSG and Monaco... and that's a recent development.
What separates the leagues is that Ligue 1 is much, much stronger past the first few teams. Portuguese league is really not good at all past the top 3-4 teams... the dropoff is much larger than in Ligue 1.
Just as an example... PSG has dropped 17 points in league so far and Monaco 25 points. Benfica has only dropped 11 points so far and Porto 15. I think we can all agree that PSG and Monaco are better teams.

Re: Portuguese league vs league 1
Ligue 1 obviously has PSG and Monaco which Portuguese clubs can't match.
Benfica, Porto, and to a lower extent Sporting are on par with Marseille, Lille, Lyon etc albeit maybe better off financially with their South America business ventures.
Then you've got a bigger drop off in the Portuguese league than Ligue 1. I can only think of Braga that's good enough to consistently put themselves among the top of the table in that league. Whereas in Ligue 1 teams like Bordeaux, Saint Etienne, maybe also Rennes, Montpellier, and Toulouse in the recent past who are always good enough to surprise you.
Even still discarding historical big French clubs like Nantes and Stade de Reims who are midtable atm.
This comparison is not even close.

Re: Portuguese league vs league 1
I believe Ligue 1 has more quality overall in comparison to the Portugese League and is also more competitive. The only teams in Portugal that match the competitiveness to Ligue 1's mid to top tier are Benfica, Porto, Sporting, and Braga. The rest of the teams in Liga Sagres seem to match the teams at the lower ends of the rest of the Big 5 leagues. The Brazilian League seems more competitive than the Portugese League.
But make no mistake. The big teams in the Portugese League can give a match to any side in the world.
