Re: Real Madrid 2014 Pre-Season discussion
Relevant Sports announced on Friday that Real Madrid and Inter Milan will face off at Kabam Field at California Memorial Stadium atthe University of California, Berkeley on Saturday, 26 July, as part of the Guinness International Champions Cup preseason tournament.
Real Madrid are the reigning champions of the tournament, defeating Chelsea in last summer’s final in Miami, and the Champions League finalists will return to California for their 5th pre-season in a row, in what promises to be an electric, star-studded match.
Berkeley Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance, John Wilton was elated by the event and the economic impact it will have for the school.
“It’s a unique opportunity to bring two of the world’s biggest soccer clubs to the world’s leading public university. It’s part of our strategy to diversify revenues, and financially support our athletics programs and our core mission of excellence and access in academics and research. As part of the agreement, 25 percent of the soccer match guarantee will be dedicated to academic scholarship support. The match will also give us a chance to share a beautiful part of our campus with soccer fans across Northern California and will have a positive economic impact on the city of Berkeley.”
Real Madrid, who has mostly spent their preseason tour in Los Angeles in recent years, is delighted to be going back to the Bay Area.
“Real Madrid is thrilled to return to the Bay Area of California for the first time since 2010. The team is proud to play the first-ever soccer game at California Memorial Stadium and there’s no doubt it will be a great event when the club takes on a top European club like Inter Milan.”
The International Champions Cup went on to announce that the price of tickets will be $45 and the exclusive presale will begin Monday, May 12, at 9 a.m. PDT for pre-qualified fans, “while the general public will have access to tickets beginning Friday, May 16, at 9 a.m. PDT through the Cal Athletic Ticket Office (www.calbears.com).” And fans will have the chance to purchase an “Ultimate Fan Pack” which includes “one supporter’s section ticket, team gear and priority access to select team training.” While the VIP Team Travel Packs will allow fans a closer experience with “VIP tickets, charter travel and world-class accommodations to all of their teams’ Guinness International Champions Cup games.”
“The Guinness International Champions Cup is a unique tournament featuring eight of the world’s best and most recognizable soccer clubs: Real Madrid CF, Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool FC, AS Roma, Inter Milan, AC Milan and Olympiacos. Twelve round-robin contests will be hosted across North America with matches in New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Charlotte, Denver, Berkeley, Pittsburgh, Minneapolis, Dallas and Ann Arbor from July 24-August 2. The tournament will crown an overall champion on Monday, August 4 at Miami’s Sun Life Stadium. For more information on the full Guinness International Champions Cup, including the tournament bracket and team information, visit www.internationalchampionscup.com. The game between Spanish and Italian giants was originally scheduled for University of Phoenix Stadium, in Phoenix, Arizona.”

Hope Medran gets to play solid minutes. True gem he is
Ramos, Iker and Modric have joined the squad today. Ronaldo will join on Saturday but is not expected to play any games. James, Navas, Varane and Benzema will join on the 1st. Kroos, Khedira and DiMaria will join on the 5th of August
Also Jese has already started running and might join the squad for some exercises before the season starts and be completely ready by the end of September. I told you he would come back way earlier than the expected time

Re: Real Madrid 2014 Pre-Season discussion
No, he is alot faster, he is a great dribbler, they have the same upper body strength which makes them both good target men but Morata is better in everything else such as shots, passes and awareness but not by much. Can Thomas become better?? yes I think so but not enough to play for the first team I don't think

Not the best first game but these guys are new to eachother so I'll give them the benefit of doubt
Liked Jesus, Bale, DeThomas and Medran though, the rest were average or below par. The bubbly surface didn't exactly make it any easier for us

Ronaldo will not be playing though...
His injury is bad... and chronic...
Well, so says the grapevine.

Re: Real Madrid 2014 Pre-Season discussion
From what I have ready he is following a recovery programme so that he can be fit in time for the super cup. I doubt he will play a big part in that game but it can be a good test to see if he has recovered fully before the league start

Re: Real Madrid 2014 Pre-Season discussion
Well he is going to need match practice after such a long time out. Wouldn't mind him playing half an hour in that game provided he has been training with the team for a long time before that

Re: Real Madrid 2014 Pre-Season discussion
Xabi doesn't have the legs to play regularly for even half a season. Illarra will play plenty but wasting his time sticking him at cm is hardly the best thing to do right now though
Apparently our game against United on Saturday will be the highest attended game in history. The stadium has a capacity of 109, 901 and it will be filled up. Why do I have a suspicion Ronaldo will participate in this game when he isn't even ready yet

xabi will be fine everybody said the same last season too , his game isn't built on running, illarra should stay people are writing him off cause he isn't some hype player, but he is very good and play can a lot better, its better to keep than to loan him.

I think Kroos will be competing with Alonso, so Illarra won't get much of a chance.

Re: Real Madrid 2014 Pre-Season discussion
Kroos is a 10, how do you expect him to play regista ? Xabi is way better defensively. Maybe next year or the year after that we'll see Kroos there, if Illarra doesn't deliver.
