Re: Transfer Rumours Thread
Well the Benzema dream is going down the toilet... Madrid are offering him an extension with an increased wage to start immediately at around 9 mil per season(total of 14+ mil with his share of his image rights). Extended until 2018 or even 2020 apparently.
That's on the table right now and it'll probably happen. Madrid wanted to extend him at his current 6 mil over the summer (11 mil total with image rights); but that was refused by Benz' camp.
Another one bites the dust it seems ffs.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread
With Vermaelen possibly set to leave (via Arseblog News), what do you all think is going to happen with CB signings this summer?
I get why Vermaelen might want to leave. But he's still technically our club captain and he's a good player - he makes mistakes, yes, but still a good player. But if Sagna doesn't renew (looking more likely by the week), if Fabianski goes (this is all but confirmed, no?), if Vermaelen goes, and plus we're short up top and arguably in deeper midfield ... there will have to be a lot of shopping done this summer, no? Even if the incoming players are good acquisitions that's a lot of turnover for a squad that looks almost there just the way it is.
(BTW, speaking of prospective RBs, Eintracht Frankfurt's Sebastian Jung just got robbed by Mkhitaryan in the lead-up to an Aubameyang goal in the Frankfurt-Dortmund game.)

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread
Was just talking about this with my brother. If Vermaelen goes, we'll need a centre back who's good enough to push Koscielny and Mertesacker for their first team spots. On top of that, we need a 4th choice centre back, either someone older and experienced or a young, upcoming talent for additional cover.
When Fabianski leaves at the end of his deal and Viviano at the end of his loan, we'll need a new backup keeper. If Sagna goes, then a right back is needed. We could do with a new holding midfielder, and obviously we need a new striker.
So that's, potentially, five new signings required in the summer; three to improve the first team, and two to improve the depth of the squad. Alternatively, we can promote younger players to be 4th choice centre back and back-up keeper.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread
Solid CB assessment, Jay. I'd prefer to see the 4th choice be a young guy - but I guess some of this depends on how Wenger and the staff see Hayden progressing.
I'd guess Damian Martinez will be promoted to the first team as 3rd choice GK next season.
GK, CB (x2?), RB, DM/CM, ST. And that's not even including the relative luxury of winger signings that are always being linked up, the Draxlers and Cuadrados ...
Personally I enjoy seeing substantial or even radical squad overhauls where a bunch of good players come together at once for a potentially exciting mix. But I prefer to watch it happen at other clubs, e.g. Fiorentina a couple summers ago. Or via Football Manager.
Keeping an eye on this Dortmund-Frankfurt match has me really wishing we got Aubameyang last summer. Sweet player.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread
We will have to buy a lot of players in the Summer with these departures. With the recent financial results, there is no excuse to not spend money either.
Finding the right players will be difficult. Specially considering the fact that Arsene might not renew and retire. He might think that a new manager better spend the money instead?
If he stays then he will spend it on the best available players.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread
About 6-7 players (squad depth and first XI) are going to be needed if Vermaelen, Sagna, Fabianski, Podolski leave. Personally don't think we'll get them all, as usual we'll leave our squad 2-3 players light.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread
Whatever happens with this season - even if things somehow end in glory & a trophy or two - it would be extremely frustrating to start next season feeling a few players short again.
That's why I'd love to see Sagna and Vermaelen stay. And also Rosicky, Arteta, and Podolski. All that experience and mental fortitude is useful. (Although Poldi staying would seemingly prevent the arrival of a badass luxury guy like Reus, Draxler, or SES.)
That said, it is nice knowing that there isn't, or won't be, much "deadwood." Coq, Djourou, and Diaby to consider, possibly.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread
Good points raised by Chum.
The summer is long enough and as said with our financial solidity we can get all of those players in the required positions. It's just a matter of finding the right players.

btw, Heldt confirmed explicitly on TV that it was Arsenal that made a bid for Draxler at the end of the window, and that it was big but nowhere big enough.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread
Not surprised. No reason for them to sell Draxler during this window unless they got a Bale like offer.
However with the release clause this window, and a big break over the summer, even if theres an issue with Arsenal not meeting the release clause, l think Draxler, based on what lve heard, will push enough for it to happen.
Though imo, l expect right before the window opens we just hand them the 37m and make it happen.
Normally l'd be worried about some other team coming in and making a deal and sign him from under our noses. But Draxler has more value to us than any other team that has the money to sign him.

Don't think it will happen. Draxler would have to agree to go and l don't think he wants to go and sit on the bench. Especially with Lewa coming in, Draxler will basically have to compete with Gotze + several others to get games.
Bayern will probably show interest but l don't think talks will get far.

yes but that's probably bullshit, as Tönnies later went on record saying he can exclude 'with 100% probability' (lol) that Draxler wants to join us in summer.
But I disagree, we could of course need him, to succeed Ribery in the future, plus Pep ALWAYS wants MORE MIDFIELDERS
