Quite possibly.
Massive overreaction here, you guys are acting like the owner just packed up and left.
Cortese was the chairman but he had nothing to do with the financial clout of the club.
This won't change anything major, the biggest thing it could change is Pochettino might leave but that's it.
The mere idea that there might be a firesale is just
A lot of their recent big signings signed BECAUSE of Pochettino, and Cortese was the main culprit of their success of the last 3 years.
Had a look at their forums....it's meltdown among the Saints.

Re: RIP Southampton
Sucks for Southampton, they had an interesting project going on, looked good. It does seem like a bit of an overreaction, they might sell a couple of their players but I doubt they're gonna go Anzhi mode on us.

Oh man sucks to be a Saints fan right now. I can see Spurs getting rid of Sherwood like he's a piece of garbage if they had a shot at Pochettino. Hopefully he goes back to Insignificantliga.

I'd gladly take Luke Shaw, Schneiderlin and Gaston Ramirez.

Chelsea fans have been calling for him for about a year now. We are constantly linked to him and a few articles have said he'd be a main target in the Summer, if he is up for sale, no doubt will we bid for him.

Luke Shaw would be f*cking perfect for our fullback problems. Will slot in nicely and solve the problem at LB for another decade. God I hope Chelsea decide Shaw isn't good enough for them or something

It would be a good decision, too
I'll wait and see on this one, but if Spurs aren't on Luke Shaw like ants on candy, I don't know what the hell they're doing. Danny Rose

If this is all true, this is terrible. But I doubt it would be this worst case scenario, surely such a big club would have the sense and ppl there to not let it to be wrecked like that.

Southampton are an old and likable club, but they're not really a "big" club except in the most recent season.

By selling everyone and slashing the wage structure to nothing, you're basically selling a club that the next owner can do whatever he wants with:
- media rights will get you 40+ mil in rev
- You can buy any player you want
I'm a private equity guy. To me, that's an extremely attractive investment. I get to apply my vision immediately andi have no liabilities to deal with.
It's not that straightforward in football, though.
First, completely dismantling a team that's performing pretty much at its peak and looking a safe bet to stay in the Premier League for at least a season or two more without adding players would be stupid and risky. Staying in the Prem >>>>>> slashing the wage structure to peanuts (especially when I don't think it's that high for Southampton anyway).
Secondly, when you want to sell players, you usually have to sell them for less than their true value. And when you want to buy players, most of the time you have to pay a premium. Since staying in the Premiership is key, not just for this season, I don't know why a potential new owner would like to see the current, safe-to-stay-up squad sold on the cheap just so they can buy a new one and pay those premiums. That would be like trading your finely performing assets for new ones of which you cannot know how they are going to perform and for which you'd have to pay dear.
I mean, if Southampton's owner sells the players, that is going to bring down the value of the club. If someone's prepared to pay, say, £150m for this Southampton FC, they are not going to pay the same if the current owner first sells the club's assets (players) worth of tens of millions. For the current owner to cash in on their players and cut the wages in an attempt to get the club break-even as soon as possible, it would only make sense if she thinks she cannot sell the club in a reasonable time and would therefore incur significant personal losses over time. I wouldn't imagine that finding a buyer would be that difficult.

Is that really her?
Somebody should spoiler tag that because I nearly threw up.
She's probably offering Osvaldo to Pizza hut as we speak, in exchange for 3 years worth of half price pizza vouchers.

It is pretty good but i'm not sure that Osvaldo would be willing to go down to £400 per month.

Do I really need to point out the rules on remaining on-topic and making productive posts? I would have expected a some of you to show a modicum of maturity, honestly. Others... well, some just don't set the bar very high.

Obviously any talks would only be at a tentative stage, however given that Southampton should quite easily ensure their survival this year there is no need to panic. A smooth takeover in the summer and the return of Cortese would allow Southampton to truly establish themselves as a top half club and even think about snatching the last European place if they were able to improve upon their shocking defensive depth.

Re: RIP Southampton
Southampton have announced the appointment of Gareth Rogers as their new interim chief executive following Nicola Cortese's resignation. The club's chairwomen Katharina Liebherr told their official website: "I am delighted that Gareth has agreed to step into this role. After the events of the past week, my priority has been to bring stability to the management of the club and I am pleased that we have been able to make this appointment from within. We had a very positive meeting with all the staff of the club on Monday and I am sure Gareth's appointment will be warmly received.”
Rogers, who has been Saints chief financial officer since March 2011, added: “I am very pleased to be able help the club by stepping up to the CEO’s job on an interim basis. We have a fantastic staff and everyone is working together to make sure the club ends the season as strongly as possible.” His appointment will take effect immediately.
