Re: The Official Talk About Whatever Thread
This semester I took one of the few classes in my undergraduate degree that really rustled my jimmies, Taxation. On the first midterm, I wasn't confident I did well but I got an 88%. On the second one, I thought I killed it but only got a 68%.
On the final exam, I ran out of time and there was so much information to consider in each question that I thought there was no way anybody could have gotten an A, but I got a 90%. Wtf? I am certainly not coming out of this class feeling as though I am an A student, but apparently I am

You're far too modest, Eman
Anytime I thought I did poorly on a test, I was correct. And the handful of times I came out thinking I rocked it, I still failed

Do you think it is a memory thing or did you just not get the material to begin with?

Re: The Official Talk About Whatever Thread
Memory thing for sure. I still can't memorize full songs and testing has always been a weakness for me. Math was my best subject, however I chalk that up to being able to check your work and not having so much stuff to remember. Numbers have always made sense to me, while words and historical events just never seemed to stick.
P.S. I am only referring to high school studies, I never attended college/university.

Re: The Official Talk About Whatever Thread
I always do poorly on exams mostly because I do not give the marker exactly what they are after, ie, word for word. I remember most things in my own way, so I write that but they don't like that.

Re: The Official Talk About Whatever Thread
It's all about figuring out what they want to hear. I drill things into my memory and just hit the points that I read in the class notes with minimal expansion. Most teaching assistants have pretty strict marking schemes, so you have to stick to what you were taught, even if you have other points you think are relevant that you came up with yourself. Regurgitation: the sure-fire formula for success

I don't actually have to worry about it anymore, next year is 95% research of my own so very little to no exams for me

Math
Not sure if I've said it before but I can't wait to get to college, get the general math credits I need done and then never deal with it again. I'm not necessarily bad at it. Certainly better than 3/4ths of the people in my class I guess (though most people are idiots so what does that say?) but it's by far my weakest subject. Doesn't click for me at all like other subjects and that's frustrating more than anything.

Math sucks, Brah.
I am just terrible at it, which is why I am terrible at Chemistry.

Not surprised at all, with ADP playing there.

Same for me. ook normal chemistry sophomore year and scraped by with a low B. Advanced class for a sophomore, but not overly challenging.
Took AP Bio junior year (last year) and got a high B first semester and a solid A the second semester, and then passed the exam with a 4. AP Bio is probably, partially due to the course and partially due to the teacher, the toughest class in my high school.
Funny how that works out. Math -.-

Re: The Official Talk About Whatever Thread
I used to never try in school at all until I took grade 11 Biology. My teacher was such a bitch and gave us hours of homework to do every single night. I ended up having to give 100% just to keep up with the work, which in turn changed my entire approach towards school work and improved my work ethic in all of my other classes up until this very day. I still hate that teacher, but without that class I may never have developed the work ethic that I needed to be successful in school

Interesting story, I bet you're thankful for her even if you hate her.

Christmas break is here
Brothers are home
Graduated high school friends back
Snow is here
In my opinion, this probably is the most wonderful time of the year

Re: The Official Talk About Whatever Thread
Should be fun, first time playing in 3 weeks. Hoping that I'll be able to play the whole time, strained my eye 2 weeks ago and they told me it'd be 6-12 weeks before I'd have normal vision again. I get double vision when I try to look left to right peripherally.
So I'm going to sit my ass on the right side all day. Inverted winger
