It's not that he attacked Ronaldo's image that is the problem I think.

It's more that Blatter, the president of FIFA, favors a player over another, which might make Ronaldo think Messi has a advantage when it comes to winning awards (such as the Balon d'Or).

I don't think anyone paints Ronaldo as a "bad boy", they just find the arrogant, conceited, cheating, diving hysterical fanny a bit of a joke as a human being. The only one of Messi's Ballon D'or that is debatable that it should have gone to someone else, is in 2010 with Sneijder and possibly Xavi.

Reputation has never gotten Messi over Ronaldo once, he's just better. Ribery won that UEFA award and has a a really good chance with the Ballon D'or this year and Ibra was mentioned by Blatter. Those two are really "good boys" aren't they.

I can see why Ronaldo and Real Madrid might be offended, but they've been beaten by the better player every time.

With that said, not too sure what to make out of Ronaldo's response. I can't exactly understand Blatter properly, but I don't think he attacked Portugal in any way.
