This gentleman agreemant was between Modric and Levy was it not? Jamie might of been there, but it's still a confidential meeting with the player and the chairman/board. Well... up until Modric starting talking to the media.

IMO, Modric is not winning anything staying at Spurs. Hence, his desire for leaving is not a surprise. If there was a gentleman's agreement between the two, then this agreement should be honored. It means tha Modric actually worked to the benefit of the club, since his contract will demand a high transfer fee, unlike Nasri who is sitting on a 1 year contract. Him going to the media is a natural response of Spurs breaking their end of the deal.

Clubs don't imprison their players, forcing them to play is not right. While players should respect their contracts; that is not the case if a gentleman's agreement have been made. in the other hand, if no such agreement have been made, then Modric is being a d!ck.

I am inclined to think such an agreement to be logical, therefore to be the truth.

I am not critisizing him wanting to move from Spurs which is natural when someone like Chelsea comes in but the way he has gone about in forcing his way is disgusting.

Why not first meet Levy before going to media about wanting to go Chelsea and giving exclusive interview? How disrespectful is that to the club u are playing now?

Also, he obviously talked to Levy before the media, his transfer request was refused, and he is using the media to force his way out.

Levy should have been intelligent enough to cash in for a high price instead of having this whole debacle to contend with.

Modric has publicly said he wont put in a transfer request because it is supposedly disrespecting to Spurs.

And he gave the exclusive interview when he was in summer holiday in Croatia when he publicly said he wanted to go to chelsea.

How exactly do u come to the conclusion that he handed a transfer request and talked to Levy before giving the interview?

Well when we first made a bid he came out and said he wanted to move to Chelsea. It's normal for any player to do that and he probably said that in order to tell Levy to start negotiating with Chelsea as part of their agreement. Then when 'Arry and Levy have publicly said he is not for sale (even after the meeting between Levy and Modric after which Levy said he is not for sale despite Modric reminding him of the agreement), what was wrong in him saying that tottenham are acting wrongly? Levy even threatened to put him in the stands if he doesn't shut up, is that how you treat a player? Levy didn't even acknowledge that they had an agreement and has kept insisting that he will not be sold, if you were the player and your chairman broke a promise like that how would you feel?

And he probably didn't put this in the contract because he trusted Levy's word for that, everyone at the club has previously said that Modric is a simple and nice guy.

Sigh, I can't believe this discussion has gone on for so long.

Modric wants to leave Spurs for a team that will enhance his career and give him a better chance at winning trophies.
He had an agreement with Levy, that by staying he would be able to leave next season for a bigger price and not sell the club short.
Him saying he wants to stay increases his price as it look like it would take a lot of money to price him away.

Levy and Modric may have come to an agreement to sell him next year, but Levy has not honorned that and told him he will stay for the longevity of his contract. Modric feels he has been betrayed and is now looking out for himself and I can't say I blame him.

What do you want him to do? Pull a Nasri and run down his contract and force the club into a bargin sale?

I was just making an assumption, just as you (or the BBC for that matter) assumed he was lying about the gentleman's agreement. He might have handed a transfer request, the media is not aware of every move. But that is an assumption. As for him talking to Levy, Modric himself said so, and it is logical to believe so. He clearly said that he talked to Levy about transferring out, and got rebuffed; hence using the media to put pressure on the club. How would he have been threatened by Levy if they did not talk.

Tottenham have said there was no agreemenr but either way its pointless as neother of them can believe it.

Modric himself has said he wont put in a transfer request because it was supposedly disrespectful for Spurs.And his agent confirmed it too.So iam not assuming it.

IMO if this gentlemans agreement is true then modric is doing the right thing by coming out and knocking the chairmen only, i read an article where he did say he has no issues with Harry and it seems none o the players have any problems with him leaving (see van der varts comments a few days back)
although really modric does have himself to blame for this, he shouldve got this gentlemans agreement in writting just like carvahlo did, then he could leave regardless of what the club thinks
