McAgger wrote:We started the season playing a variation of 4-4-1-1/4-2-3-1 and now that we have too many starting CB's and not any real wide attackers we've moved to a 3-4-1-2 to fit all of our squads strengths. Waiting for Glen Johnson to come back and slot into that RWB spot and Coutinho in the AM role (currently occupied by Moses) right behind SAS.

The RWB has been sort of a problem with Johnson being injured since we've had to deploy Henderson or Sterling there. Neither of whom are wing backs. But he's supposed to be fit after the international break for our next match against Newcastle.

As for Coutinho, so far this season he's been targeted by teams whether he's played on the left or in the middle, but with Suarez back and moving to his favorite positions with our new formation with two class forwards in front of him it should help open up more space for him to operate in. He's also currently injured and should be back after the International break after the Newcastle match.

Another weakness has been the immobility of Lucas and Gerrard in the center of midfield. They are both quality players but when paired together we get overrun by athletic players. So Henderson playing in the middle is a must until we get someone better. A rotation between Lucas, Gerrard, Hendo for the two pivot spots in the center is expected and encouraged.

And lastly it's Jose Enrique at LWB. When he's playing good he's very good, but when he's not playing good he's so bad that he completely ruins the whole flow of the team. Aly Cissokho should give him competition there but the poor fella has been injured so far. He's also looking to be fit after the international break. It'll be interesting once we get all of our players back fit.

Mignolet
Toure - Agger - Sakho
Johnson - Lucas - Gerrard - Enrique
Coutinho
Suarez -- Sturridge

Expected line up when everyone is fit. With Henderson, Moses, Skrtel, and Cissokho pretty much shoe-ins here and there depending on who we are playing.
Aha, didn't expect that from Rodgers. Very interesting, , let's see if it works. Anyway, that's a 5 line defence, not a 3412 however.
What is so great about that formation is that when you defend it turns into a 5 man defense and when you attack the two wing backs turn into midfielders and you've got 3 defenders at the back to prevent counter attacks. So really you can call it 3 or 5 at the back, doesn't make a difference.

As I had predicted.. good appointment.

On other note, Kompany out for a month. How injury prone is this guy?

Yea, he has been a very important part to the team so far. Their defence has been one of the best in the league and he has played a key role in that

I just read that the Championship average attendance is higher than all top leagues in Europe except the top 5 leagues (England, Germany, Spain, Italy, France). Incredible Shocked

Also League One (3rd tier in England) has higher average attendance than all other 2nd tiers in Europe except for Germany.

Kid is talented but can't play with Osvaldo by the looks of it. He would rotate with Coutinho, our next best fit with Eriksen moving to Spurs...........

October transfer rumours Laughing not a chance in hell of that happening.

And he's an awful CB btw when fit and on form a very good RB how ever.

But there is more chance of kinnear unearthing the next Lukaku than this happening tbh.

Hah! No thanks. Ramirez is talented, but his work rate would see him on the bench under Brendan Rodgers. One of Coutinho's best traits is his willingness to chase and hairy off the ball. Everytime I've seen Ramirez play since moving to the Premier League, he's looked lazy and slow anytime Southampton lose possession.

I would much rather just recall Suso. And, that's saying something for me. The Liverpool sect should know that I'm not Suso's biggest fan. I don't think he has the pace to play on the wings, he hasn't shown the physicality needed to play through the center in the Premier League, and I've frankly been less than impressed with his workrate overall. For me to prefer Suso to Ramirez at this point should tell you exactly what I think of Ramirez.

His work rate isn't even that bad... he can't get a game this year because he doesn't get along with his manager and Soton don't currently play with a number 10. They play a 4222.

He was one of the best young players in the league last year, and one of the better Soton players last year under Nigel Adkins.

And who are we question work rate when the likes of Moses and Aspas get games for us in the number 10 position????

What are your thoughts on David Silva? It seems like you'd reject him at Liverpool. He can't exactly play in the centre that well either, and doesn't have that much pace either.

Ramirez was one of the biggest flops of the season last year for 12M for a club like Saints. 80% of his productivity came off set pieces. Saints fans were furious with him and wanted him benched at crunch time last season.

and Saints still pretty much player a 4-2-3-1, but Osvaldo is in withdrawn left position and sometimes joins Lambert on the attack. There is definitely room for Ramirez, but he is nowhere near as good as pressing without the ball as the rest of their attackers (that's how Saints play under Poche. Press relentlessly).

He wasn't a flop last season, what are you on about. He was inconsistent, but which young player wasn't? Hazard definitely was. Oscar was. As was Coutinho at times.

He was as good as Oscar in the premier league last year; majority of Oscar's highlights came off of the back of performances in Europe. Oscar was regarded as one of the best in the league. If Gaston Ramirez played for a bigger club, he'd get a lot more attention as the pressure would be off his shoulders and he can play his natural game. He was pretty much carrying Soton under Adkins when he was played in the centre. Majority of his poor performances came from playing out wide.

I don't know if they wanted him bench in the second half of the season but he can't play in Pocahontas' system. It's the reason he hasn't started in the BPL this campaign. They don't play with a number 10.

They play a 4222. Lambert and Osvaldo play off of each other. They're "wide forwards" are Lallana and that other fellow that destroyed Liverpool last year. I think his Spanish, I forget his name.

They don't press too much; they pretty much play like us but instead of Gerrard and Lucas, they have the best DM in the league in Schneileden and a destroyer type in Wanayama so it's difficult for teams to get passed them in midfield. They create goals by movement, they don't really have a playmaker. Ramirez should be starting. I think his agent has came out and said there is beef between Gaston and his manager, too.
