If Arsenal cannot mount a title challenge this year then I think it may be time to replace Wenger.
Please, Arsenal have a 100m distance in their wage bill from City, even if they spent enough to get 5 or more WC players to bridge the gap by even some 50m (Protip, don't bet on it) they would still find it a struggle to beat City and Chelsea to the punch.

Let me cut the suspense right here and now, Arsenal won't go anywhere near top 2 unless they spend big (Big as in, unprecedented big). What Arsenal *might* fight for is third place, but i doubt Wenger and co is interested in spending enough to just jump up one place.

...

And i think GK is the position that would need reinforcing considering Szczesny is arguably the weakest starter on the team.

err No, If transfer happens ( a big if) then it would be CF, DM and back up CB. Szczesny is set to be starter and GK is the 3rd last position (after wingers and CM) Arsenal has to worry about. The Cesar rumor at the beginning of this summer was mostly because Wenger thinking he could get him for cheap, of course he back out immediately after QPR asking price & Cesar wage factored in.

Wages for players aren't perfect, but they're as damn close as it can be. It's been proven the wage market is very efficient and good players end up winning alot and bad players end up winning not so much. If bad players end up earning more than they deserve, the market quickly corrects itself, hence the "were" in your sentence.

The singer and classic TV performer has died at the age of 84. Eydie Gorme passed away on today in Las Vegas after a short undisclosed illness. A well known nightclub performer in New York, Gorme joined Steve Allen’s local TV show in 1953. She soon was partnered with another singer on the show Steve Lawrence and the duo moved upward with Allen in 1954 when his show became NBC’s Tonight Show in 1954. The couple married on December 29, 1957. The next year, The Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme Show debuted on NBC and lasted one season. Still, both solo and with Lawrence, the Grammy winner would show up on the small screen often over the next three decades. Gorme appeared on the Gary Moore Show, What’s My Line?, Password All-Stars, The Ed Sullivan Show, The Bob Hope Show, the Carol Burnett Show among other. As well as a big music hit in 1963 with Blame It On The Bossa Nova, she co-hosted The Kraft Music Hall for NBC in the late Sixties and hosted The Hollywood Palace on ABC in 1970. Gorme won a Primetime Emmy in 1979 for Steve & Eydie Celebrate Irving Berlin. In 1997 and 1998, Gorme joined Rosie O’Donnell on her syndicated talk show. Gorme is survived by Lawrence and their son David.

Don't care one bit.

I'm saying that in favour of Arsenal. Do you think if Arsenal hadn't got their asses handed to them in that 8-2 rapage against United 2 years ago, they would have signed Benayoun, Arteta, Mertesacker and Santos on transfer deadline day in 2011? No they wouldn't have.

The more you're exposed during these pre-season friendlies the better. Because you have time to act on it. With this 3-1 win over City, Wenger will come out and say he doesn't need more reinforcements and this squad has enough quality to win EPL.

After Madrid's victory over Chelsea we saw a 20 pages thread and the excitement on some Madrid fans was unmeasurable and how great the team was etc...

Now after Arsenal's win over Man City (which imo have a better team than Chelsea) it's just a friendly, that double standards...

Our issues were in our midfield and defence more than anything else. Giroud did bag a goal; I'm not sure if Higuain would have done better. This is exactly why not getting a striker would suck, but not getting a DM and CB would end our season before it even started.

The title of this thread was "Arsenal look terrific TODAY. Hence it was not some prediction thread that they were going to win a ton of trophies or anything.

How long will Wenger keep watching the train wreck that is Chesney in goal before he decides to buy a proper keeper? I mean this has been going on now for the better part of a decade with the Chesney/Almunia experiment.

Watching the game today it was so so obvious what moves Arsenal need to make. Like I have been saying all summer, the Higuain transfer was not that big of a deal as Giroud will have a great season. They need to buy a GK, DM, and CB.

It's really quite obvious, I can't believe Wenger can't figure this out.

^ This.

There is just a gaping hole in the middle of there team. I know it strikes a nerve when I say this but Wilshere is just not cutting it and hasn't been for a while now. They played there best football last year when he was out injured and he looked flat out bad today.

I think losing Song has really hurt Wilshere's confidence as he has very minimal cover when he goes forward and every good CM needs someone to watch there back.

I've said it a couple times, I still can't believe Arsenal just watched there hated rival buy Paulinho for pretty cheap and didn't even challenge them for him or run the bid up. That guy would be PERFECT for what Arsenal needs.

Hey I have a wacky idea, how about getting in a manager who is actually prepared and shrewd when it comes to acting in the transfer market?

Grooverider pls, that would mean the board would have to actually spend money. Why use resources to better the team, when it could be spent on a new Gucci fanny pack for Kroenke's wife?

It's official, our goalkeeper is bloody mental & koscielny too..... Why was carzorla not playing more centrally and to make things worse van persie gave a majestic performance again lol.

Yeah, I like giroud but we need a star striker as well as midfield reinforcements & a sane goalkeeper.
