It really isn't..... Zenit are meh and Porto are rebuilding again. Atletico really should walk that group with ease.Adit wrote:Its about time ffs.
Arsenal and Manu have some serious tricky group. I think Manu group is really strong that any one can finish any where. BVB, Napoli and Arsenal will make the most interesting group this time around.
The B group winners most probably will be between Juve and Real...who ever winning the head to head imo.
Atletico madrid has strong chance of qualifying as well since the group is wide open for any one to take.

The Porto team i saw in the Emirates cup was verrrry impressive.Do not underestimate them. They are a side with CL pedigree unlike other teams in that group.

Gala are better than half the teams in the CL lol.Vlad the Impaler wrote: When Man United played with Galata , GL were laughing at Man U because they struggled against them.
Now suddenly Galata is tricky team.

Yes, overachieved. That which you mention is the very definition of overachieving. They'll not finish top four this season and they'll be lucky to keep hold of their talent once the vultures of Europe start circling.

yeah but Atletico has very little depth. Their biggest target is qualifying again for CL rather than going far in that competition.I dont watch zenit so yeah if they are shet Atletico can easily qualify from that group.Great Leader Sprucenuce wrote:It really isn't..... it seems like youre underestimating vela, griezmann, prieto etc. they have a very decent squad.
though i dont think they will finish top 4 again this season i think they will progress past the group stage.
if they do get knocked out early then they definitely have the quality to finish top 4 again, but if they are balancing 2-3 potential tournaments then no chance.

they will have no problems with that. This team used to have a basque only policy. They have a great youth academy. one goes another one is promotedThe_Badger wrote:Yes, overachieved. you do know a good bunch of these players are straight from their academy and not bought right???
and its not like this is their best season in their history they were one of the top dogs in laliga in the early 90th and believe it or not Xabi Prieto is still there from then. They have very loyal players and are finally back to where they belong
I wish Depor would follow their policy. Sociedad is one of the best run clubs in Spain. them bejng in CL is long overdue

What has this got to do with anything I've posted? You seem to be dodging around the points raised by rolling out a load of meaningless facts.halamadrid2 wrote:they will have no problems with that. They are by very definition a yo-yo club and one swallow does not make a summer. It's typical of some on here to champion flash in the pan clubs/players/managers.
Sociedad's history dictates they'll not have a decent league finish this season.

Well, he was U17 World Champion, scoring 5 goals in the competition and with 21 years just now called up for the Swiss senior NT, where he impressed as well so far. Don't think he's the finished product already - and playing for "second rate teams" is quite usual for very young players to get playing practice after all.The_Badger wrote:Playing for second-rate teams in Italy and Switzerland?rwo power wrote:TBF, "that Swiss lad" isn't half bad and knows how to score goals.

To be fair, he's got off to a relatively decent start at Sociedad. Time will tell if he can show what quality he may have, and he does have time on his side.

Re: Champions League 2013/2014 discussion
you said they were overachievers to which I said no because they have been there don it before and they have rivalled us for the league not once but 3/4 times this past decade. They are merely back to where they belong ( CL). of course this is a work in progress after having been relegated and faced a mass exodus. Their players are pretty young and have very high release clauses to stop the big teams from picking players off them
if they can stay this competitive for the long run it remains to be seen but they are definitely not inexperienced and definitely have the depth to finish top four and go far in CL and Copa

The last time they had a decent league finish was over ten years ago and it was sandwiched between two bottom half finishes.halamadrid2 wrote:you said they were overachievers to which I said no because they have been there don it before and they have rivalled us for the league not once but 3/4 times this past decade. In the last 15 seasons they have only ever finished in the top half on La Liga twice yet, you claim they belong in the CL, a competition they have NOT played in far more times than they actually have.
They've been a terrible side for the last decade, three seasons of that was spent in the second-tier. Suggesting that they've rivaled "you" 3/4 times this past decade shows a level of ignorance I cannot begin to understand.

Now, I don't wish Arsenal to lose but if let's say we win 2-1 against them - I hope Higuain is the goalscorer so he can rub it in Wenger's faceAdit wrote:Dont have anything against gunners but this will be epic.futbol wrote:Higuain to kick Arsenal out of Europe.

Re: Champions League 2013/2014 discussion
my bad I think I mixed Depors run in the early 2000 with Sociedad. I stand corrected. Cant believe I got them mixed up
Anyways I think I am having a dejavu of my Atleti discussion where people said they were nothing and could not challenge for any titles because they lost all their best players every year
I watch many of their games which is why I am a heavy defender of theirs

I think Soceidad are a very good side and fancy them to take 4 points of Man U, they are very similar to Athletic Bilbao and look how Man U struggled with their style.
You can say there a flash in the pan or whatever but not many teams will beat Lyon 2-0 home & away.
Fancy them to be really competitive in all 6 games.

Beating Lyon nowadays is hardly a mark of quality.Suarez99 wrote:I think Soceidad are a very good side and fancy them to take 4 points of Man U, they are very similar to Athletic Bilbao and look how Man U struggled with their style.

And you really need to get over your bitterness of Man Utd, it's clouding your judgement.

I'm scared for us. Donesk are a very dynamic team and are more than capable of beating us, La Real can beat us as well. I'm bricking myself.

A City fan acting like Yaya Toure is at all responsible to anything negative that has fallen on the squad is just crazy. That man personally dragged City to both there recent trophies.
Jeez, where do these people come from?
