Risk you take.....but most of that money atm would go on players which are not really good enough.
Would rather try and get CL and then sell when you can actually replace him properly.
Personally, I would sell, then use the money to sign Hulk and a forward, and if Corentrao is not part of the deal, a left back. Problem is if we want to pay in installments, you maybe don't have the money to do that.

I think Bale's actual value is somewhere around £50M.

Which apparently is the actual fee Madrid have offered and not the ridiculous 80 summin mill which was reported before.
Seems like to me everyone was just copying Marca's BS to unsettle the player. ( probably worked mind )

ffs... we're going to have to tweak everything to fit Bale in. Why would we do this? He's basically mini-CR7 and we already have CR7!

Re: Gareth Bale transfer saga
Mole's right. The Guardian said an offer of 80m was received; but it was "only" 50m according to the telegraph. The telegraph is hardly ever wrong, and one of the more reliable papers in terms of English transfers.
He's only worth around 30m, to be honest. He's been consistent for one season. One. Such hype goes around him as if he's the closest thing to Ronaldo, no chance.

Re: Gareth Bale transfer saga
Spuds have been holding onto players and saying "this year we'll qualify for the CL!" for a long time now, they cant keep this up for too much longer. What mole said is right, although surely they couldnt use the same line again next season if they fail to finish top four again, so it almost becomes a 'do-or-die' situation for spuds this season

Re: Gareth Bale transfer saga
I dont understand why Spurs are so desperate to hold on. He wants out and 50m is great money, 80 something if true is insane.
I know they relied alot on Bale, but you can easily retool the team with 50m and make it so you arent relying on that one guy in the final third.

Soldado's good.
Arguably the best striker in the Spanish league outside the "top two". I read somewhere that he has a 1 in 2 record throughout his whole career.

What can they do with 50m to retool the team at this stage considering they are not in the CL as well?
Its bad timing, AVB has already got the players in he wants to rebuild the team with Chadli and Paulinho and seemingly Soldado is on the way.
Now he would not only have to replace Bale but also rebuild the team when we are a couple weeks away from the new season.
If it happened at the beginning of the summer i'd might agree, but i really would reject all offers attack the top 4 and go from there.

Who would they buy to replace Bale even if they were in the CL? Can't think of many goalscoring wingers currently.

They could do a cash plus player deal for Di Maria?

Re: Gareth Bale transfer saga
I still think there is plenty time.
Its not ideal that some weeks of preseason have gone by but its not by any means too late in my opinion. I would trust in AVB's ability as a coach.
There are still players out there they can lure.
Hulk is probably miserable at racist Zenit. No CL sure, but I am fairly sure AVB could talk him into it.
Nani is probably available, Di Maria..some others.
I dont think they would have to completely overhaul the team. Yeah, he is real important, but tactically I believe AVB could figure it out.

They bought Chadli, so I think the experimentation of Bale as a "CF" and playing around him will continue.
Chadli will rotate with Townsend and Siggurdson (sp?) on the left wing. Soldado will play up top with Bale behind.
They've definitely improved the starting XI with the signings. They can really fight for the CL spots with Bale; they can't without him. That's the only reason they're holding on.

Yeh I was thinking of Di Maria, but he's not really a goalscorer.
Thought of Hulk too, but I think he'd be a bit too expensive.

AVB wants to keep him for a reason. He is just that good. He's not as good as "rival to Ronaldo" and all that overrated nonsense, but he is their only chance of CL as of now. AVB has built the whole team around him. To lose him now, and to get an as good player to replace him will be hard. They'd have to overpay for "player X" as teams know Spurs have money by selling Bale, and there's always a risk of that player flopping.
Which CF can you also suggest joining Tottenham now? A realistic target too, before you mention the likes of Rooney etc.

Re: Gareth Bale transfer saga
Bale is the most important marketing figure for the Spurs... that's why they want to keep him so bad. It makes them relevant for neutrals. Without Bale, who would watch the Spurs?

That's not entirely true, though.
AVB already knows what his team look's like. He already knew the weak links and fixed them with the signings of Soldado, Chadli and Paulinho. He already has a game plan set up (which evolves around Bale but none the less). His team look's set for this season.
His current team has suppressed Arsenal as of stands right now. Not to say they'll finish top four, but they do have a very good chance with 3 of 4 clubs finishing above them have new managers wanting new styles of play etc. Let's not forget Spurs were fighting top 4 but they had their usual Spud moments in the second half of the season last season. The last 3 signings have improved them a lot. I can see them realistically finishing top 4 and surprising a few.

Think so? really think they have a chance if they get Soldado and hold on to Bale.
Chelsea haven't really improved at all IMO, i know every wanks over them because of Mourinho but i really don't see it.
Arsenal haven't bought anyone, i expect them to do so but as it stands Spurs have closed the gap as far as quality is concerned.
