This is the most stupid signing since QPR bought Samba in January for 12m.

So Anzhi buy Samba for £12m from Blackburn. QPR then buy Samba from Anzhi for £12m, and now Anzhi buy him back for the same amount from QPR.

The only way this transfer makes sense if a lion's share of that 12m went into the pockets of Redknapp, Fernandes and whoever it is who owns or runs Anzhi

Not too long ago 'arry was calling this guy a "complete beast" or something like that, and now hes shipping him back to Russia, and after relegating blackburn and QPR with a tour of Russia in the middle this guys morale must be finished by now
plz Samba isnt fit to lace Cahills boots

Re: QPR sell Samba to Anzhi for £12m
I quite like Samba. I actually think he's very well suited to the English game and the best thing for him would be to stay in England and play for an above mid-table team.
The problem is that you don't make much money playing for an above mid-table team and you can make stupid money at Anzhi.
I mean it's not his fault the last two EPL teams he played for got relegated. Julio Ceasar got relegated too and I thought he was one of the best keepers in the EPL last year.
If you think about it the move makes sense. If he isn't going to play in the first division he would have never accepted a move away from Anzhi to play in the championship so he just goes back from where he came from.
It was basically a loan.

There's a reason no one above mid table has bought Samba and why he's been relegated twice.
He's not good enough, mid table defender at the very best who is terrible at everything except from heading away long balls.

IT's clearly not his fault if BBurn and QPR got relegated though.

Re: QPR sell Samba to Anzhi for £12m
I think you could say he played a part in QPR's relegation, though. He was signed to help right the ship in defense and he never looked like providing the requisite ability and/or leadership that he was expected to. Certainly, it is partly the manager's fault for signing a player that couldn't fill those needs, but it also falls on the player. He's an experienced PL player who's played in relegation dogfights before and was getting paid a huge amount for the club's standards and yet he never looked interested enough to actually provide what he supposedly had... and that's no-one's fault but his own.

Re: QPR sell Samba to Anzhi for £12m
Thing is, though, he isn't. Yes, he's big and strong, but he's slower than the hands of a clock, he's positionally inept, awareness is non existent and, as Red said, for someone with so much PL experience, he looked lost, unmotivated and had a tendency of fading into the background most gamesDnmac4 wrote:he's very well suited to the English game

He's just flat out mediocre. I wouldn't put much blame onto him for QPR going down but he came in and changed almost nothing.
Why he's valued consistently at over £10M is quite a mystery.

I too think he's decidedly mediocre.Tomwin Lannister wrote:He's just flat out mediocre. I wouldn't put much blame onto him for QPR going down but he came in and changed almost nothing.

While the shouts for him losing his motivation/concentration/etc. certainly seem valid, it's hard to say he was getting much help in that backline.
Samba was always a bit of a blunt instrument. He used his size and strength to bully opposing forwards and control a penalty box. However, he was slow, and positionally undisciplined, meaning that he HAD to have a specific type of player paired with him. He needed someone who could cover for his deficiencies. Clint Hill, for all his good qualities, no longer had the pace to make up for Samba.
What's was shocking to me was the idea that Samba was ever going to be the savior of QPR's season. It would take a truly world class defender in order to shore up that QPR defense single-handedly. In truth, it was always likely to take another quality midfielder in addition to Remy and Samba in order to get them out of trouble. Unfortunately for QPR, none of those players were ever likely to come to QPR... especially in January with them looking nailed on for the drop.
So, yes... Samba was hardly the world-beater he was touted to be, and he barely even lived up to his own reputation from his previous stint in the Premier League. However, he was never going to be the player they needed.
