Never did complete AC 2
Might have to do that tomorrow, I think when I bought it it was along with like 4 other games, and you know how it is. You end up sticking to 1 or 2 and forgetting you own the rest
I must complete every game I neglected before the PS4 takes its rightful place on the Iron throne (My desk)

The actual missions and game play didn't offer the versatility and options that the previews and descriptions promised while the story was (IMO) flat and uninspired, and both issues were further exasperated by a schizophrenic and inconsistent difficulty curve that goes from entirely too easy to seemingly unbeatable back to easy and so on and so forth. While the setting, designs, and ideas at the core of the game were fantastic the execution was flawed on multiple levels, making the experience all the more disappointing for what it seemingly could (and arguably should) have been.

I share some of your concerns RO, though i do feel that the gameplay deserves a bit of credit. For me it was extremely addicting, i loved the portrayal of stealth in the game. They give you many paths for sneaking in. You can possess a rat and sneak in lol
Though i do agree the alternating difficulty was a setback

I honestly felt that they failed to give properly diverse paths for missions, to be honest. While you could opt to possess an animal in generally still involved taking the same general path to get from point A to point B... While it was never portrayed as truly open world like the inFAMOUS or Prototype series it was still suggested that there would be more varied and open exploration options in the missions.

On another note, Far Cry 3 is on sale for $30 until the end of E3 (tomorrow night)... is it worth the money if I've never played any of the previous Far Cry games?
What games does the play-style resemble? Is it anything like Just Cause 2?

Fair enough, i can see how that played out for you. I wasn't following the game very much before its release, and i only picked up from word of mouth. I too myself dislike how some companies overpromise and underdeliver.

Haven't really tried out Far Cry 3, played a bit of it at a friend's house, didn't impress me a lot tbh
It does kinda resemble JC 2 although i feel the freedom is a bit restricted than JC 2
Again, haven't played it much, you can always try out by downloading the demo

Far Cry 3 is by far the best game of 2012. Did not receive GOTY because it got released in December, after all the nominations were announced. Superb game. It's a bit like Crysis+Just Cause with a great story and sandbox. Open world with side missions, enemy outposts to take over and wildlife that even betters Red Dead Redemption and a variety of ways to do missions/complete objectives. You can play it all guns blazing like COD, or just kill everyone with a silenced sniper. The crafting system is great as well, you have to craft wallets, holsters, syringe kits, ammo pouches with animal pelts and make medicine with herbs from the island. Really great game and has a long main story campaign and several side activities like poker, shooting challenges, assassination missions, hunting missions etc. You can't fly anyting. Car, trucks, speedboats, quadbikes etc.
And Barret, I advise you to get Assassin's Creed II, best game of the series by far.

It's fun! You'll get A LOT of playing hours. Apart from the main mission line, you can take over territories and collect special items (that you can use to upgrade weapons and vehicles)
It's intended to be comical at times and it works fairly well. One thing that I don't like about it is that after awhile the AI voices and side missions becomes too repetitive it will start to annoy you

I swear I see Just Cause 2 getting more publicity now than when it came out. If you like sandbox games it's one of the best ones out there.
It doesn't take itself seriously and it knows it. If GTA interested you at all you should give JC2 a try. Unless you play GTA for the Simsified aspect of it.
FC3 is a great sandbox FPS with light RPG elements. Gameplay is goty-worthy but story is lacking and I hated Jason, despite the gameplay being goty-worthy it has very little replay value :s It's worth getting since so many fps's nowadays give you a 2m-6m corridor to run around in and the freedom is nice.

I think I'll end up liking Dishonored eventually. I bought Far Cry 3, quit within 5 minutes, went back to it a few months later and loved it. Only game I was cheering for the villains to kill my character and his friends though. Totally agree on that.
I think people should check out Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon. It's an arcade/PSN game, shorter than Far Cry 3, same engine, exact same features..only set in an 80s inspired vision of the future. It's better than FC3 IMO.
Also I'd recommend Sleeping Dogs over JC2 for the GTA crowd. Such an underrated game.

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Conviction: although it's not as stealth as the other games in the series it's still pretty fun to play, monochrome view could be annoying.
Assassin's Creed - Revelations: Just plain boring imo, didn't even finish it.
Sleeping Dogs: Rich story, nice combat mechanics, detailed world, shat driving.

Yeah, been about 5 years since I played it. But I still remember it.
Hard to really describe it since it's pretty unique. Great game. Still looks better than 99% of games releasing today.
Top 5 game this generation for me

Re: The "Is X Game Any Good" Thread
I dunno lol
First person platforming with action elements I guess I'd call it..
I haven't really played a game like it, the platforming is parkour basically..amazing visuals. You have enemies on the levels to fight, you can even take their weapons/turn the game into a semi-shooter, but the game sort of steers you to avoid it, the gunplay is crappy anyway.
platforming isn't a genre I enjoy or ever really play but Mirror's Edge is unique from everything else
check out some gameplay it's definitely not for everyone
