Re: Arsenal Pre-season
Very, very good performance from the team. A lot better than what we saw at the Emirates Cup, which is encouraging.
I felt we gave City one too many chances despite defending well throughout the game, though. They got in behind down the left a few times and got some decent crosses in, and Silva found too much space at times. I don't think Mertesacker had a particularly great game and he especially struggled against Negredo. Koscielny was muscled off the ball way too easily for their goal, too.
Overall though the shape of the team was good and the mdifield provided good cover. There weren't many times where City cut us open.
Going forward we did well for the possession we had. We didn't create a lot but took the chances we did make extremely well. The play - passing, movement and finishing - in all three of our goals was excellent. I especially liked Ramsey's goal as it highlights something we've been lacking; a midfielder making runs to get on the end of passes instead of always looking to play the pass.
Player-wise, I thought Wilshere didn't have the best of games and Cazorla didn't look fit at all. Sagna and Ramsey continue to look good. Perez did okay when he came on. Dived in a couple of times when he shouldn't have but did make one good switch of play.
And with that, pre-season is now officially over. Roll on some new signings and Villa next week.

Re: Arsenal Pre-season
Silva drifting from side to side in between the lines,With City starting with 2 strikers, they made sure our defenders are distracted and cant come up to meet him
Maybe DM specialist can fix that a bit
despite the scoreline we conceded way too many chances,a bit worried some players aint 100% this close to the season
still need couple of star signings for line up and couple for depth
come on Arsene

Re: Arsenal Pre-season
mertesacker isnt that good at all, this guy gets caught out a lot during a game, for example today we should have conceded like 3 goals because him not getting tight enough to negrado. we'll see has the season goes but imo merte is going to let us down in a few big matches.

Koscielny has let us down in a few big matches too. It happens to all defenders.REWB wrote:mertesacker isnt that good at all, this guy gets caught out a lot during a game, for example today we should have conceded like 3 goals because him not getting tight enough to negrado. we'll see has the season goes but imo merte is going to let us down in a few big matches.
He didn't stand out today. But overall I disagree and think Mert is definitely a good defender. He does well to compensate for his weaknesses by positioning himself well (usually) and playing very calmly.

Re: Arsenal Pre-season
kos has issues with focus, or composure, I don't know which. The mistakes he makes are buffoonery of the highest order such as his red card last season against city. Those lapses don't happen often though and for the most part he's very good

Our 3-man midfield today made Silva, Yaya, and Fernandinho look ordinary. Lets hope we keep it up and Wenger adds to this squad.

Re: Arsenal Pre-season
this type of intelligence defending is over rated.. Kos when one form doesnt miss anything however aggressive or mobile he is.. doesnt miss like tackles or 1 vs 1.. same like how Verminator was when on form.. so it is just the matter of form for Verminator and Bosscielny.. but a matter of talent and potential for Metskr..Diego Armando Maradona wrote:kos has issues with focus, or composure, I don't know which. Re: Arsenal Pre-season
A bit hard to talk about talent and potential when all of them are over 25 already, fact is Verminator is out of form for nearly 2 years and it was Boss and Mert holding the fort since last year. I just don't get your bias against Mert, what the guy gotta do to convince you that he's better than the " temporary" mediocrity that is Vermaelen. Shoot me now but I actually prefer Sagna over Vermaalen based on their most recent performance.Wilson37 wrote:this type of intelligence defending is over rated.. On the match, I know it's overreaction but this could be Ramsey's year, for the moment there I thought i am watching Xavi and Iniesta Bring in Gustavo to do dirty work and free Jack & Rambo upfront, we're set.

Re: Arsenal Pre-season
After his performances last season,I thought there wouldn't exist any BFG haters.
OT,I thought Ramsey had an almost flawless performance yesterday. He has become more industrious and is utilizing the space provided with good decision making thanks to the time spent in the wings.
Similarly,TJW has also improved especially with respect to passing. He doesn't run into blind alleys as much as he used to.Dat pass for Giroud...
Its apparent that the aim this preseason was to ensure all the players take equal responsibilities in providing, scoring and defending.
This was clearly implied by Ramsey's goal,TJW's assist and the collective defending done by the team, though I was slightly miffed at the goal conceded(Thought Kos cannot be bullied off the ball at all).
I would like to conclude on Perez.Good passer of the ball with good composure but is a hot head.Gave away an unwanted free kick and was yellow carded as well.Needs to control that and then he MIGHT become a long term replacement for Arteta(as he plays as a DLP for At.Nacional),if we do sign him.
Also he looks kick-ass.Someone who the opponents will fear thanks to his appearance.
To conclude,If we can sign him for less than 3mio it would be a good deal.Definitely not worth the reported 5mio fee,at least for now.

For anyone interested,Here's the individual highlights of Perez from yesterday's match:
And I must mention about the top-rated YT comment for this video:
"I don't even give a f*ck, sign the lad up coz he slid in on that p*ssy Navas, and continued chewing that *bleep* gum like there's no tomorrow."
