What's with the Villa hate?

He's not someone who relies on pace/strength/any other physical attributes.

As far as I'm concerned he could probably play at the top till he's like 35.

If Wenger plans on someone like Sanogo/Joel or even Walcott eventually playing alone upfront this deal makes a lot more sense than it initially looks like.

seriously i am not at all happy with signing Villa.. he was an option last winter when targets were few.. but we should be really looking for long term options in summer.. he would cost 10-15 million and will be on atleast 80-100k wages.. i dont think he has left in him to be the main CF at Arsenal and play 40 matches a season.. will end up as another CF or LW option without being a significant upgrade in any.. we already have LW packed with Cazorla, Poldi and Gervais. and what will Poldi do..? we already have Poldi at a better age who can play on the LW or be a backup CF.. there is a large chance that Villa will turn out to be a burden on the wage bill if he fails to adapt in the PL or gets injured.. so we should either go for players who significantly upgrade the options, or atleast young players who can improve or give alternate option.. if not then stick with the players we have got..

He lost a lot due to his injuries, but still has a lot to offer IMO.

In his 19 starts this season on the left and centre he has 8 goals and 6 assists which isn't bad at all when you consider he only averages 1.6 shots per game which is rubbish for a striker service wise.

Most strikers who score 20+ will have at least 4 per game.

You could do a lot worse personally.

The 70 million seems a bit unrealistic. I am guessing around 50 million ( for both transfers and wages) is available to AW. If we can get rid of the deadwood then we will save in salaries.
Getting Villa will be a big gamble. For me the Pros of getting Villa are:
>Highly experienced.
> Good Finisher
> Has very good ability to read the game.

Cons:
>Will cost over 10 million pound and with wages of over 80000 euros.
> Has lost his pace after his leg-break and for a diminutive striker pace is a big part of his game.
>Does not have the physique to play as CF in EPL.

If we can get him for under 10 million or on a performance based contract ( small basic wage and high performance related bonus) then i think the gamble is worth taking on.

The thing is, people bitch and moan about wanting to win now, but they're not satisfied with someone who can help you win now but only do it for two or three years. Fans want the perfect signing -- a proven world class player who is only 23 or so and is willing to sign his life away to the club. It's just part of the fickle nature of fandom, I suppose.
