What are you talking about? Argentina won the WC only 8 years ago, it would be nothing like CR taking Portugal to the title. Not to mention that Maradona was the team's star in 1982 when they were very clearly one of the favorites.

Also Maradona was 26 in the 1986, when he played a WC at 22 he flopped, was man-marked out of the game and had very little effect. I'm not taking anything away from him, but if Maradona were 25 today and had only won what he had won by age 25 there would be no question of who is better.

If Messi goats the next WC, you're absolutely right. But as i've said, this coming WC is critical for Messi's legacy. He will always be one of the best ever... but how far up requires WC domination like all the other top players. You can't be in the top 5 ever without WC glory. It's impossible.

No, I understand all that. But his performance in 86-87 was nothing special, in general level.

Look Messi is a great player, blah, blah, blah, blah... but your anti-everyone who is compared to Messi bias is absolutely trite.

What I'm saying is that you don't have to fling mud at every other player just to prove your point. It got boring really fast and has become more and more ridiculous in every thread since to the point where your bias diminishes the strength of whatever arguments you make.

It's quite obvious that you will say anything to make the achievements of past greats seem like lesser accomplishments compared to Messi. And I'm not suffering from any nostalgia.

Messi is in all likelihood the greatest player of all time, however, quoting the number of ballon d'ors he has won, bringing up tables of statistics to compare players in different eras and resorting to outright slander really doesn't help you out.

That's the funny thing, everyone knows Messi is great, but these types of threads make people hate him and his fanboys.

I think that more people would bother reading, and actually post in threads about Messi if it didn't all come down to this rubbish.

While its amazing, k still consider Maradona the better player, at least until Messi does something of note at international level.

Also, Messi (and Ronaldo) have taken goalscoring to a whole nother level yes, but it should be noted that the defending of this generation is laughable especially in La Liga, and even morsel when you compare this La Liga generation to the Serie A generation Maradona played against. I mean, you could probably name 10 defenders that Maradona played against that are better than anything Messi regularly plays against.

Scirea, Baresi, Gentile, Cabrini, Bergomi, Maldini, Tassotti, Costacurta, Briegel, Passarella, etc.
