Official 'Corner kick' Hatred thread
Goodness, how I hate corner kicks. Both Madrid and Pool seem to be notoriously shite at them for some reason.
Can never do shite with our corners, except maybe concede a fast break for the other team And both teams can't defend them to save their lives.
Discuss.

Probably because big teams have enough quality players to not have to rely on them, and don't dedicate much time in set pieces as in comparison to other areas of the game.
There's nothing tighter than an Arsenal fan's bunghole during set piece defense, so I share your pain

Yeh, set-pieces seem to be a weakness for a lot of the big teams. Corners are an easy way for a weaker/underdog side to create a chance, since they can be 50/50 in terms of who's going to win the ball in the air.

I hate them. For the same reason as Gondov.
Barca can't do shite with them and we can't defend them either.

Despise them. And crossing
2 games in a row against Juve, Lazio scored from 2 corners and a bs cross.

LOL
Preaching to the choir.
To be honest, not very many teams defend them well, its clearly not easy.
Its not surprising either, if you put 15 players inside a space as small as the box, so much chaos, something its bound to happen eventually.

Re: Official 'Corner kick' Hatred thread
Surprised at all this hate towards corner-kicks. A big part of the game and it's just another area where teams can do well if they've got the players and the training. It can be a conscious decision for a team to try and be good at set-pieces and if you can be successful through that, then it's a job well done.
In general I'm a little disappointed at all this hate towards physical football in the forum. Stoke's style, defensive orientated teams, now corner kicks... Football can and should be played in different ways.

Personally for me the only "hate" is the fact we cant defend them.
As for physical football I have no problem, however for me, it doesnt take great talent and skill to be a good set peice team, so therefore its not something I find exactly special.
Defensive football I hate though and have no time for. It ruins the game, makes in boring and dull..I detest those teams who have no ambition to try and play.
If thats what you have to do to compete, so be it, but that doesnt mean I have to like it.

Re: Official 'Corner kick' Hatred thread
if you think corner kicks are bad, try having a manager who uses a semi effective zonal defense to counter it
outcome: CATASTROPHIC

Re: Official 'Corner kick' Hatred thread
In the EPL, the average rate of scoring off corner kicks is 1 in every 30. Yeah, scoring percentages aren't as important because a single goal can change a match, but that's a pretty atrocious number.

We all have to admit though a corner kick taker scoring direct from a corner is pretty awesome

Only a matter of time before someone said something about zonal.....
If you have only 2-3 capable guys in the air, NOT going zonal is what will be catastrophic.

Re: Official 'Corner kick' Hatred thread
Dani a team has to have balls ffs. Just have a 5'4 guy mark an opposing player like a man ffs, so what if he's 6'3? There is no problem with that.

I miss when Barcelona had the likes of Rafa Marquez Puyol Yaya Abidal Milito defending corners, now there is no one any decent ball in is basically a free header
