Barcelona icon Johan Cruyff believes Neymar is the biggest problem at Camp Nou as a result of his extortionate salary.

The 22-year-old joined Barca from Santos ahead of the 2013-14 campaign and immediately became one of the Blaugrana's highest-paid players.

Cruyff feels the attacker has yet to prove himself at the highest level, though, and thinks his rivals up front could be unhappy with Neymar's high wages.

"Barcelona's problem is Neymar," Cruyff was quoted as saying by El Mundo Deportivo.

"He is a great player, let there be no doubt about that, but you cannot sign a 21-year-old and pay him more than players who have won it all. Nobody is god at the age of 21.

"Plus Barcelona already have the greatest player in the world [Lionel Messi] and a 21-year-old kid cannot be the key figure. This is impossible in football. At the age of 26, yes, but not at 21."

Neymar has netted seven goals in 21 La Liga appearances so far this term.

Cruyff isn't wrong about the salary thing.

But i do find it interesting and quite frankly tedious that nobody uttered a word when he was carrying the team till Christmas and how he was MOTM in the first Clasico etc etc.

But now he's had some injuries and been played out of position everybody wants to open their mouths.

Benching Cesc would solve half of Barcelonas problems.

Neymar just turned 22, recently he's performance wasn't great but the guy was injured with all the problems surrounding his transfer saga etc...
He wasn't MoM against City or RM like he was in 1st clasico but he's presence on the pitch helped Messi have more spaces in these two games...

Also, its amazing how people quickly forget his performance in the beginning of the season especially the clasico at Camp Nou...

Jibers i wouldn't go that far personally....

There are some games where Cesc's directness and penetration with his passing is required.

Problem is they have to decide when its required and when it isn't....

Xavi-Iniesta-Cesc is overkill, one of them has to drop out at any one time in favour of Pedro/Sanchez so Neymar and Cesc/Iniesta can play their natural game.

Problem isn't Cesc inparticular, its the idea of choosing to play 4 midfielders and 2 forwards over 3 midfielders and 3 forwards.

I have no big complaints about Neymar for the season. Since christmas, and especially after the injury, he is sucking, but I hope the controversy can fade and he can give us a strong year end and his season will have been notable.

True. In big games like that Cesc should be dropped. Neymar should have started right and Pedro on the left. There should always be 3 forwards so that Barcelona can have more penetration.

The irony is that Iniesta always plays his best football when he's on the left. He won player of the tournament in Euro 2012 and EPOTY playing predominantly on the left. He also produced his best football under Tito there in the first half of 12/13. Fabregas in midfield allows Iniesta to do damage in more advanced positions. Xavi and Iniesta without Fabregas are overdoing the triangulations in midfield these days since Xavi doesn't have the mobility anymore to be Pirlo and Platini at once.

There's some truth to that..... is it worth it having Nerman on the right where he's clearly ineffective though?

Well, so far the trade-off works in big games. Personally I don't think Neymar will be "ineffective" on the right anyway. Against City he scored a legal goal and did some other awesome things (like that turn to bring the ball down where he headed the ball and floored Lescott in the process but then his finishing sucked). Not as good as on the left naturally but he can play there and play well. He's just in mediocre form right now, no matter left or right. His movement was spot on against Mehdrid regardless. His decision making was too slow because of it and his defensive game sucked but it will work.

Have waited for Messi, Iniesta and Neymar to get into form the entire season. Messi and Iniesta are there now. Now 4 or 5 more games and Neymar will also get there and Europe will be conquered yet again. Beware, scrubs. :bow:

Also no Neymar has not been shit on the left in La Liga.... he was the best Barca player up till Christmas where he carried them for all intensive purposes to a 6 point lead in La Liga.

Then he got injured and they had problems blending him and Messi together.... its coming together better now though.

Because he was coming back from injury and despite that he instantly made the team more dangerous and nearly created a goal for Messi.
