Good players who have failed as managers
This is a thread of great players who completely failed as managers, name them and shame them
Maradona: Remember his tactical disaster with Argentina at the world cup
Zico: He gets the sack wherever he goes
John Barnes:
Tony Adams: couldn't even hack it at Wycombe wanderers
can't think of anyone else, which other good players have failed as managers ??

Lothar Matthäus, though it could be argued that he never got a proper chance at a good club.

He is done alright with his managerial career, he did well at Blackburn and Fulham.

Yes, Shearer failed really bad at Newcastle. He should be the last person sitting on a sofa criticizing all the other managers when he'd struggle himself out there

Him and Berti Vogts have failed pretty bad, i mean Vogts reign for Scotland was just pure LOL. Ruddi voller as well

Vogts won the Euros though, in '96, and was a part of the coaching team that won the '90 WC. And Azerbaijan is steadily climbing those FIFA rankings.
Then again, you could probably expect a player like Vogts to have the tactical awareness to properly coach a first flight club somewhere, granted.

In recent memory,Ciro Ferrara.
Although it would probably be a bit too early to brand his managerial career as a total failure.

Re: Good players who have failed as managers
Leonardo is the first name to come to mind for me, whilst others may be included depending on your definition of failed. Some would suggest Ferrara, Donadoni and Luis Enrique belong to this category, however they have all likely have time to achieve something. Leonardo is unlikely to ever return to coaching and with good reason.

Takes over the greatest Liverpool side from Kenny Dalglish and turns it into shite. We still haven't recovered completely from that. FAIL
He succeeded with the Rangers in SPL, like that's such a tough thing to do. And that was during his time as a Player-manager, no one is denying that he was a great player. SUCCESS So basically most of his managerial success comes when he's a player manager and can affect the games when he's playing himself.
He takes over Galatasaray after they've been dominating the Turkish league and yet he can't win it with them. The second he leaves they go on to win 5 league titles in a row or so. FAIL
Goes to Southampton and signs Ali Dia (supposed family of George Weah) the guy ended up not even being a professional footballer. FAIL
Goes to Torino and lasts about 3 months. FAIL
Goes to Benfica, and can't even finish above Boavista, also refuses to sign Deco (who ends up at Porto after that season and the rest is history) and instead signs a bunch Pool rejects. FAIL
He did decent with Blackburn. MEH
At Newcastle fans hate him because he took their team that was doing quite well (they finished 5th before he took over), spends 50m in 1 and half years and flirts with relegation. He gets sacked and they improve drastically FAIL!
Wouldn't say exactly the stuff of champions is it??

That's why I asked. But he is already two for two in "failures" so far.

Re: Good players who have failed as managers
I don't consider coaches who failed a little failures. Knowing when to quit has to count for something
It is those who are try again and again and fail who should be considerd in this thread IMO.
