Gerard Piqué assures that the image that the public has of Cristiano Ronaldo is in no way similar to what the Portuguese forward is like in reality: "Maybe he was being very sincere what he said about being got at because he was rich, good-looking and a good player. Perhaps he was right. I know him and he's a very pleasant guy, but his public image isn't like him at all", he said during a football debate entitled 'Footballers vs Journalists'.

The Barça defender also gave an insight into many players' apparently arrogant behaviour: "It looks like we're being distant, but it's a protection barrier we put up to not get hurt. Criticism can be hard to take. When you win all is just great, but when you lose it's all so cruel."

The player assures that when he speaks to the press, he is not out to be controversial: "Many times I walk into the press room thinking that I'll just say stuff we always come out with, but then I get hot under the collar and I make the headlines."

Here is a heart-warming tale if there ever was one.

According to Spanish daily sports newspaper AS, Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo, the current holder of the Fifa Ballon d'Or, has done the honourable act of paying for an operation needed for a 10-month-old boy with cortical dysplasia, a brain condition that can cause 30 seizures a day.

Young Erik Ortiz Cruz, a Real supporter, required the €60,000 procedure to remove a part of his brain, before a series of treatments that cost €6,000 each time. Little Erik's case came to Ronaldo's attention when he was asked to donate some boots for a charity auction, and the Galatico went one better and agreed to pay for all of the treatments.

Ronaldo, recently named in a poll by goal.com as the richest player in world football with an estimated wealth of €148 million, has shown his kind nature before - he also paid for a nine-year-old's cancer treatment in 2012.

He may have a museum dedicated to himself, but it seems Ronaldo has not lost touch of reality.

How the hell can a 10 month old kid already support a club? Not to mention with the sickness he has.

Bayern Munich defender David Alaba has revealed he is "fascinated" by the free-kick taking abilities of Cristiano Ronaldo and David Beckham after watching hours of footage on YouTube.

The 21-year-old has scored twice this season from dead ball situations - against CSKA Moscow and Schalke - after perfecting his technique at the end of training sessions.

And the left-back revealed to Bayern's official website the lengths he has gone to in his bid to become a free-kick specialist.

He said: "There are lots of brilliant free-kick specialists in the world. But the technique of Cristiano Ronaldo and David Beckham fascinates me most of all.

"It’s not that long ago that I played for the academy. I used to spend hours on the laptop watching free-kicks on YouTube - again and again. You obviously learn a thing or two."

The Portuguese forward won the Ballon d'Or last year but debate rages on throughout the world as to whether he or Barcelona rival Lionel Messi is the best player in the world at present.

But the France international insists the former Manchester United man, who has scored 25 goals in 24 league games for los Blancos this term, is the best footballer ever and says he counts him as a good friend.

“He made me dream and he still makes me dream," the striker told Telefoot. "For me, he is the best player of all time.

"I play with the best player in the world. We get along well on and off the pitch and I learn a lot from him."

The former Lyon star has come under criticism over the last few seasons, but has netted 21 goals in 38 games in all competitions for Carlo Ancelotti's men this term. The striker insists he is happy in the Spanish capital and feels can only move forward as a player.

“I have had difficult times for club and country but I always believed in myself and enjoyed the support of my family," he said in an interview with Telefoot.

“So far, it has been a good season. It was hard, all those critics, it was like a game for them. They judged me on my goals. I never gave up, but it was a long period of time.

"I work, I get experience and I have extraordinary players all around me, so I can only improve."

The Spanish giants already have one foot in the Champions League quarter-finals as they head into Tuesday's meeting with Schalke already 6-1 up on aggregate and the 26-year-old feels there are many formidable opponents they could meet in the last-eight of the competition.

“There is not only Real and Bayern. There is also Chelsea and PSG… We only have to think about our team and rest for now.”

The forward is also looking forward to playing in his first World Cup this summer and believes France can make a good impression on the world stage in Brazil.

“I never had the chance to play a World Cup. It is always in the corner of my mind. We are outsiders, we will try to get there well rested and move along calmly.”

So Ronaldo pretty much became the stereotypical "family man" & role model overnight huh?

Doesn't even get anywhere near as much hate as he did while he was still wearing a Man U shirt. Apart from Barca fans, Messi fanboys & his own supporters anyway.

Bitter haters like Mamad et al don't really represent the fan base. The Bernabeu adores him and anyone who understands Madridsmo likes Ronaldo.

I wouldn't say that Ronaldo has become anything over night, if anything he's been the same guy since the birth of his son (which had the biggest impact on his life and what type of man he wanted to be) it just that now after years of being insulted and disrespected by everyone people are now going "well we've been really harsh on this guy, I mean he has a lot of good qualities."

He is the people's champ Proud

He was never the arrogant/cun t/bad guy type of guy. It was just the image created by the media, mainly because of his antics, which most of them were because of his winning nature. Still, he has matured a lot since he came

Ronaldo will equal Ferenc Puskás if he manages to score twice tomorrow against Schalke.

Puskás scored 242 goals in 261 appearances with Real Madrid while Cristiano’s figures stand at 240 goals in 235 games. The Portuguese forward is the only player in club history to average more than a goal per game (1.02 per game) and while Puskás spent eight seasons at the Bernabéu, Cristiano is almost level with the legendary Hungarian after five.

When he finally does overtake Puskás, Cristiano will become the fourth top scorer in Real Madrid history after Raúl (323), Di Stéfano (307) and Santillana (290).

In two years time he will be our all time greatest scorer i think. He is only missing a CL with madrid imo, and maybe more league titles. If he does achieve the CL, he will be remembered as the guy that led madrid past a decade of misery and steered the club in the right direction.

Not overnight but it took a few years. He was still the same ass he was at Man Utd on his first season at Real but slowly his attitude began to change. One of the main reasons I turned from a hater to a fan.
