It may have taken until 03:00 in the morning, but 1860 Munich have agreed to hire former England manager Sven-Göran Eriksson.

Chairman of the supervisory board Otto Steiner explained there had been lengthy discussions between himself, club president Dieter Schneider and chief investors Hamada Iraki and Hasan Ismaik through the night.

Schmidt stays

"We were able to find a compromise which was voted for unanimously by the supervisory board," said Schneider. "We've agreed that Sven-Göran Eriksson will join our coaching staff, but Alexander Schmidt will remain as head coach."

How the work will be split between Eriksson and Schmidt remains to be seen, but Schneider insisted the club's three-year plan would be further adhered to, with the compromise ensuring there would be no financial obstacles.

Rich experience


Chief executive Robert Schäfer added his endorsement to the deal, saying: "[Eriksson] is a world-class coach. We need to try to make the most of his rich experience."

Bad choice.

Eriksson has been in a complete run of hilarious flops since his sacking of England. Aside from his impressive Lazio stint he hasn't summoned that same nous since then.

I wouldn't be happy with the move.

Yeah but he wont be head coach at least. This is pretty much Ismaik wanting a puppet of his being appointment - the power struggle between board/fans & Ismaik is going to get tiresome and has already turned the club into a bit of a laughing stock. I'm pretty sure Ismaik wanted him as head coach in reality.

This will be the first real test of the 50+1 law.

He badly needs a successful spell here or it could be his last job.

By the way, does anyone else wonder whether Phritz uses deliberately the word "sauce" instead of the correct one "source" ? xD

It's a habit from 4chan - there was an Anime where a character was asking for sources on a forum but was mocked with soy sauce, did it come from oyster sauce etc.

Moot (admin of 4chan, which is an Anime board and doesn't just consist of /b/, which has turned into a craphole) changed the word filter to change any instance of Source to Sauce so anyone asking for sources was asking for sauce.

I just realized that happened 8 years ago. Dang I feel old now :s It was pretty hilarious at the time to see people asking for sauce and it just stuck with me and the rest of 4chan in general.

You want more sauce with that?

Eriksson doesn't even know he is gonna coach them...

i thought HSV is retarded for being completely unable to keep any negotiations secret, but this just tops it all.

It's shocking how much of 1860's drama over the past couple of weeks has been in the papers.

It's quite frankly embarassing. It doesn't help that Ismaik will cry to the media at every opportunity. I admire that he wants to take 1860 to the CL but he needs to realize that this is a club whose ultras, and even "normal" supporters boycott the Allianz Arena just because it benefits Bayern. Or idiots who would vandalise Bayern HQ because they saved us from insolvency.
