Is Chelsea the worst Champions League winner ever?

1. Lost Super Cup
2. Eliminated from Champions League knockout phase
3. Lost Club World Cup

I can't think any other similar performance, maybe in European Cup's time?

Getting dumped out of the group in the subsequent season(First team to go out in the Group stages as defending CL winners) and now getting outplayed by a South American team is a testament to that and does all the more make it a fact now.

The idiot with the 1.9 GPA who barely makes his way through high school gets the same degree after four years as the man with the 4.0 headed to Harvard.

So what. They're still champions.

I don't know if they're the worst. Almost certainly the luckiest though.

The entire shape and philosophy of the team has changed from the one last season.

This team has nothing to do with that team.

That team went through some pretty strong teams to get where they got and while they were lucky, so has every CL winner in quite a while. As far as understanding their limits , execution and tactical makeup etc , this team was one of the better ones.

I thought this was already fact after the way Chelsea progressed and won the CL?

@nikeadvert Yes there's a difference, Respect, which is what Championships are all about. There's no point in going around saying they're champions of Europe after the manner in which they won the CL and how they've performed since then. After strengthening the squad.

The truth is, they won it, and they deserve respect for that. Even doing it in the manner they did does not make it an easy feat. It will always be a curiosity that Chelsea's search was ended by an acting manager, with a 6th place squad and one of the tougher roads to the final. Let's not cheapen what they accomplished. Criticize how they did it all you want. They still did it.

If you think Chelsea was sh*tty last year then I can tell you Barca Bayern and Napoli were even worse. People seem to forget they didn't get to final penalties instantly. They are terrible this year though.

Chelsea deserve their victory, they had a plan and follow it to the cure. I hate when people try to make you believe they didn't deserve it. They beat Barca fair and square, then went ahead to better Bayern on penalties. and that was no luck, luck doesn't repeats itself.

As far as I am concerned they were the most effective team in cpl last season and they worked really hard for it

Yes. Dont really think it needs an explaination.

I was very let down by them in the CL this year (thought they were friggin awful in the year before if im honest) after some nice investments, was hoping for some tasty matches against them. 2-2 at stamford was just a nice goal by oscar plus 3 other goals and thats about it. the 3-0 at JA was just shocking by them, no desire at all. also grabbing a late win over shaktar should of really sent them through but they just crumbled.

They deserved ti win it & congrats to them about it but stats show that they are the worst winners in UCL history....

All jokes aside i dint expect much from Chelsea this year despite their massive spending spree..

This is clearly a team in transition and like its been said here this is a new look Chelsea in terms of playing style a stark contrast to the Chelsea side of last year and maybe would you would expect them to hit full gear come next season provided they address some of their current glaring weaknesses too over the summer.

I was surprised many people labelled them as title contenders early on in the season but i for one was firm in my mind that they are not ready yet to mount a serious title challenge yet..3rd place is the best they can finish this year in my opinion.
