is gervinho a flop?
Re: Gervinho is a flop
I'd happily take a loss in him and sell him in a heart beat. Not Arsenal quality, nor could he fasten Pires, Ljunberg, Hleb, Rosicky or Wiltord's boots. Flog him ASAP !!!

Re: Gervinho is a flop
he is my most hated Arsenal player atm.. one and half seasons is a long time to watch a player.. cant see anything better coming from him.. may be Wengers most flop signing in terms of cost.. not Arsenal quality.. may be that is why we didnt have to fend much competition signing him..

Nani is streets ahead of Gervinho is every facet, yet he can't even buy a game at Utd. Just goes to show that when you're not doing what you're supposed too, you'll be benched and eventually sold.

Re: Gervinho is a flop
It's trippy to think back to the mentality around Gervinho back when he signed for Arsenal. Many considered him more of a finished product from Lille's title-winning team than Hazard, at the time, and he seemed like a real deal signing ... if less than a world-class type, at least far from being a scrub and possibly destined for great things. (Squillaci: joined Arsenal with similar on-paper qualities.)
Consider this paragraph about Gervs from June 2011:
The Ivorian, nicknamed by his ex-Brazilian coach, also played a hugely important part in Lille’s domestic Double last season, getting 14 league goals en route to the title. Has been extensively linked to us and Man City so far this summer, and if he’s going to leave Lille, it’s likely to either Manchester or London. Can play either up front or on the wing, which could potentially solve two problematic areas with just one signing. Has all the makings of a classic Arsenal signing, but this is where City come in- they’re basically willing to offer Gervinho much, much more than Arsenal are willing. We can avoid this problem if City get someone else, like Alexis Sanchez for example. But if they target Gervinho as their #1 transfer target, then unless the player himself has a burning desire to come to Arsenal, then he’s probably going to go Manchester.
[EDIT: I just peeked at the comments section of that article and sure enough here's what one poster there said: "Gervinho is a better player atm than Hazard. Hazard is living on his rep atm..good passer, but nowhere near Ronaldo or Messi level just yet.
Gervinho is way more of the finished product than Hazard." ]
Honestly I fear that looking at the occasional moments of magic for Gervinho and wondering if he's finally "hit his stride" is about as fruitless as thinking Fernando Torres will ever fully get his groove back.

Re: Gervinho is a flop
I'd give Pod and Giroud the benefit of the doubt purely because they're not being played to their strengths.
Gervinho is diminishing with every playing-second that passes.

Re: Gervinho is a flop
Is Gervinho a flop? No. Does he suck balls right now? Yes.
I believe he has shown consistently consistent consistency of being in a bad form/low confidence. Passing, crossing aren't his strengths. Only thing he can do is dribble, which requires a high confidence. I guess he still hasn't been able to accept the difference in the two leagues. If things go his way I still believe he can come good.
That being said, I have lost my patience with him. If anyone came with a offer for him I'll take it.

Probably the most hated player at the club right now, and tbh, it's for good reason. He's been atrocious, even if he did stumble into scoring a few goals earlier in the season.

Re: Gervinho is a flop
Can't defend him anymore
Gets the ball in an open space.....and decides to spin round and run to the corner flag so opponents can rally and get their bearings together
Enough is enough

Gervinho, Chamakh and Ramsey. Make my blood boil.
CLEARLY not good enough. How many chances do they need?!!
No one can defend them.

Re: Gervinho is a flop
I've defended him before, i said i'd give him till middle of this season before i cast judgement. Well we're pretty much at that point in the season where i can say he should be sold. I still believe he is a good player. But he is extremely low on confidence and it looks like he'll never regain confidence. He was low on confidence when he first started for us, and he still is. He just not good enough for us i'm afraid so he should be sold this upcoming transfer market IF we have a replacement in line. No point getting rid of someone if we can't replace em.

The point is that Gervinho can stay shit and can get alot of starts at Arsenal. Why would he bother to work on his weaknesses which he has from day one until now.

What does that tell you? Wenger is the biggest flop. Is not Gervinho's fault he keeps getting starts.

He may be biggest flop signing ever.. We make fun of Torres..
But Gervinho for 10million is arguably worse than Torres for 50million...

Re: Gervinho is a flop
At Lille, Gervinho's job was made simple... he made runs off the corner into the box and he either shot the ball on goal or centered to an area. He didn't have to lift his head to look for a player or get too fancy. His options were simple.
At Arsenal, he actually needs to think more out there and, frankly, he's horrible at it. You have to take choice out of his hands.
Add a lack of confidence and increased selfishness... basically the Arsenal version of Sturridge.
