is gervinho a flop?
Gervinho is a flop
He has had ONE year, that is a lonnnggg time. If he isnt showing what he is made of by now, then i think its time to worry. Tbh i have NEVER been convinced by him even when he was at lille. I just think this guy is a HUGE transfer flop from wenger. How much did he cost again 11mill?...geezus

Re: Gervinho is a flop
If he doesn't find consistency by Christmas, then he will be.
I've never been completely convinced by him, either. I saw a player who could run with the ball but couldn't do much else. Since he's joined Arsenal, all he's really done is run into players, produce poor balls across the penalty area and look scared in front of goal. Walcott does similar things, but at least he's been productive, which is something Gervinho has failed to do.
Last season, I tried not to come down too hard on him and was prepared to give him time, since he was new and adapting to a new league and country. He showed glimpses of the player he could be but struggled for consistency. I thought that maybe with more time, he'll improve.
It'd be rash to judge him on just two games this season. He disappointed against Stoke, but had a good game against Sunderland. I still have faith he'll start performing week-by-week, but if he fails to do so by the midway point I'd be concerned about his Arsenal future.

He is so frustrating, he is got this season to save himself. Wenger he will probably persist with him for a couple of season hoping he comes good

I'll give him a few more months but he hasn't been good. He puts his head down and tries to beat his defender every time, has no end product and it seems he only passes when he decides so before hand.

Re: Gervinho is a flop
He has been frustrating but, i think he could become very good for us. Has he been a flop? Yes. Is he a flop buy (if you know what i mean)? No. He will prove himself hopefully. I saw against Sunderland, the dribbling he was doing, the players he was taking on, he was doing very well. But, his end product is poor. That's one thing we can all agree on. His passing is mediocre, and his decision making is okay at best. His shots aren't crap. THe problem is he's too nervous. I believe he's got a good shot on him but he's just too nervous and you can see it. He doesn't know when to shoot and when he finally makes the decision, a player is closing him down or something.
Take a look at Rosicky. When he gets the ball, he knows what he wants to do. If he's gonna shoot, he thinks about it before he even gets the ball. Gervinho sorta seems like he doesn't think ahead and just tries taking on people once he gets the ball.
What i'm trying to say is, despite the fact that Gervinho has some obvious weaknesses (passing, decision making, nervousness in front of goal), if he touches up on those points, he can do really well. I sorta feel like he's a puzzle. There's a few pieces missing but once the pieces are in place, he can really start scoring goals....

Re: Gervinho is a flop
At this specific moment in his Arsenal career, yes, he is.
He has this season to put it right. After an excellent pre-season, I anticipated he would move up a gear, but his display against Stoke was dire. Positive against Sunderland last week, but not what I expect from one of the best players in Ligue 1 or the "best player" Eden Hazard has ever played with.

Re: Gervinho is a flop
I still think he has potential to contribute to the team. After this season is over i think i could answer whether he is a flop or not. I think last season when he had to go away to the African cup of nations, it affected his integration with the team. The shoot-out miss must have been bad for him mentally also.
However i think this january he also has to go to the african cup of nations, so dont know how it will affect him again.
For me he has two problems.
1. bad final ball.
2. Fears shooting like sendoros feared drogba.

He is frustrating yes but I believe he will step up his game, the only problem with Gervinho is he cant cross, has to stop trying to dribble the entire team.

Re: Gervinho is a flop
Frustrating to watch. The amount of times he dribbles down the flanks and runs out of space (usually resulting in a goal kick) does my nut in.
He has been a flop so far but I hope he can come good.

Re: Gervinho is a flop
Last year he showed flashes of promise before AFCON then he sputtered out and lost confidence. He has a year under his belt that every player should get before he's officially labeled a flop and although it wasn't a good year for him, it wasn't terrible.
I haven't been defending him just because I believe in him, but because I also think every player should get the chance to defend themselves with their play and to silence critics and win over the fans.
He's got a few months to do it before I'll call him a flop.

Re: Gervinho is a flop
Not a starter, but great player to have on the bench. Him trying to dribble past the entire team n the flank sort of reminds me of nani when he first came to united. I think he will do better once he figures out the defensive tactics used by teams to shut him down.
He can turn out like kalou if he doesn't sort his shit out.

I called the flop when you signed him. Arsenal fans laughed at me.

Re: Gervinho is a flop
The guy is good when he plays far from the goal, the closer he gets to the goal the more he shakes and dribbles out of play etc
But if you get Isco this guy will be history

Re: Gervinho is a flop
This is a little surprising. In ligue 1, Gervinho did not pale in comparison of Hazard in the Lille side that won the league.
I had always thought that his main quality, his speed, his 1vs1 dribbling abilities would make a him a good Premier League player, especially because his speed would be used properly.
I can understand why Chamakh did not make it as your style of play was quite different from what he was used. But Gervinho should have make it.

Re: Gervinho is a flop
Looks like he isn't needed right now, but once he gets some confidence in lower keys games he'll come good.
He should be motivated enough because of the competition.

Come on man, he ran his heart out and has scored few goals, what would you have done if he missed a chance like Aguaro at he end of the game?
I rather him than Waclott who is showing no heart at the moment.

Re: Gervinho is a flop
3 goals in his last 3 games with one poor performance only because of his decision making, not his actual movement or challenging of the opposition, granted decision making is what counts. But then again the fact that this thread was bumped because of one poor showing in 7 matches makes my knee twitch...
