FIGC Approves of 12-man benches
http://www.gazzetta.it/Calcio/21-08-2012/serie-a-ecco-panchina-lunga-dodici-riserve-fin-1-turno-912327753756.shtml
The FIGC has accepted a proposal from la Lega requesting that coaches be allowed to name 12 substitutes instead of 7. Aurelio De Laurentiis was the man who originally requested this last May.

Serie A approves 12-man benches
By Football Italia staff
Serie A teams will be allowed to have 12 players on the bench from this season, announced the FIGC.
The change in rules was confirmed by the Federation after a request from the Lega Serie A and President Maurizio Beretta.
This gives clubs the opportunity to hand a list of 23 players to the referee before a match in Serie A, the Coppa Italia, Italian Super Cup or Primavera youth league.
“This decision for the ‘long bench’ is something I have always fought for and finally we achieved it,” said Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini.
“It is a choice dictated by common sense and it’s about time we got here. This way we will no longer have frustrated players, as all of them will feel involved in the match.
“Just look at Palermo. We have two players for every role, so we can only benefit from this new development.”
Roma boss Zdenek Zeman is more ‘old school’ about having seven players on the bench.
“It doesn’t change much for me, as in my experience a total squad of 18 is sufficient.”

Can't be a bad thing really. You can cover yourself for just about every situation.

This will certainly improve chances of youth players to get minutes.

I don't see how it could be a bad thing, coaches would be able to use almost everyone they have at their disposal. And we'll probably see a lot more primavera players make their Serie A debuts earlier than they would have before. 12 may be a large number but it sure beats having players sit in the stands.

So pretty much the whole team can be on the bench?

Hopefully it's a success then it will almost force other federations to follow suit like it did with 7-man benches after that initial success.
Will also help the Football Manager players

It's fine, but most of the time won't make a difference on substitutions made.

Well I don't know which one I'd prefer, taking it easy in the stands or going through warm-up routines before every game knowing that there are about 7 guys who will be subbed on before me.

Lack of competition? If almost everyone can make the team why even put in the effort in training. I still think this is a good idea its just everyone was saying there was nothing wrong.

Generally, most players wouldn't be satisfied with just a spot on the bench. They would still put the effort in training to try and get into the starting eleven and actually be used during a matchday.

Re: FIGC Approves of 12-man benches
Shocked the FIGC actually approved something before the other FAs could
And what's more, it's actually a progressive move.
Italy may actually be beginning to take steps towards being worthy of that 4th CL spot again.
Miles and miles to go yet though, but this is very encouraging.

Re: FIGC Approves of 12-man benches
I always wondered why you couldn't just name all non-starters as bench players.. If you only get 3 subs then whats the harm? At the end of the day there will still be a maximum of 3 guys coming off of the bench..
Would make for some more intriguing tactical battles if you ask me.. It's like giving a painter more colors to choose from

Re: FIGC Approves of 12-man benches
You guys should think about those deadwoods that wouldn't even make it in a 12man bench, do you think it will be good for their ego's as Humans...?
Bayern Bench: Starke, Rafinha, Contento, Dante, Can, Tymo, Matinez, Muller, Shaqiri, Wieser, Pizarro, Gomez.
How do you guys think Van Buyten will feel about this...?

Re: FIGC Approves of 12-man benches
12 places is a luxury so i'm sure coaches wouldn't choose all 12 based on how good the players are. a few spots could be rotational for the deadwoods
