Giovinco: I’m a goalscorer
Sebastian Giovinvo returns to Juventus for 2012-13 as a new type of player, so he says, and one that cares more about scoring goals than setting them up.
The diminutive attacker returned to the Bianconeri this summer after the club bought back Parma’s 50 per cent share in his contract.
Last season in particular highlighted that the player had developed at the Tardini since his original departure from Turin, as he netted 15 goals from 36 League appearances for the Gialloblu.
It is a return in front of goal that has the youngster believing that his second chance with Juve will be different.
“I wasn’t sure I would be back, I only had the hope,” the 25-year-old reflected to Hurra Juventus.
“I am from Turin, Juventus is the team I started my career at. To wear this shirt again was my ambition. Now I am here.
“Three years ago I was in my early 20s, I wanted to prove myself, which is normal for any true player. They say I have succeeded in two seasons at Parma - they say with the performances, goals scored, the attention that Juve then had on me again.
“I have changed for the better and my footballing growth is not yet complete.
“Those who know me already will see a new player. I’m more aware of my ability, especially compared to the past and you will see a goalscoring Giovinco.
“Now, I like to score goals, it’s better to score than to assist. I’m not putting limits on myself, I want to score many for Juve.
“It will be hard to do better than those who won the League title in spectacular fashion last season, I will have to fight for the shirt.
“We’ll see at the end of the transfer window who else will be in the Juve attack, but I will be available for [Antonio] Conte like everyone else.
“My physical structure? Physique is not everything. Spain and Barcelona are showing that centimetres are not critical.
“The important thing is knowing how to handle the ball, knowing how to run with it. It is about more than running after the ball in vain.”
Giovinco also reflected on his relationship with teammate Claudio Marchisio that stems back to their time in the youth team together and on stepping into Alessandro Del Piero’s shoes.
“With Claudio there is a particular understanding. He’s matured a lot, he has followed a path of continuous growth and has become one of the best midfielders in Europe. Credit goes to Juve’s academy.
“Del Piero? It will be strange not to feel his presence, which is so important.
“Alex has been and will remain a legend. Nineteen years at the same team is a milestone for few chosen ones.”

This article really shows that Gio is a striker and not a wing or CAM as some posters on here have been advocating. I'm glad that he has found his natural role, now we need to utilize him.

Re: Giovinco: I’m a goalscorer
I agree. Vucinic, Gio, and Matri would result in a lot of goals conceded. I'd rather see Gio/Vucinic or Matri/Gio or Vucinic/Matri and Gio getting subbed on.

If we dont sign a big name striker, then i say stick with the 352, with Vucinic and Giovinco up top. Both can bang in 15 goals a season, so together theyd be good. Plus the creativity would be incredible.
