Pepe vs. Hummels

PEPE or HUMMELS as a Center-back (defensively)

Hummels overall. Pepe is on great form but Hummels has a higher ceiling.

Although i agree Hummels is strategically wiser, I can never imagine him stop players like messi 1 vs 1... as pepe has done at several instances...

If I had to pick between the two I'd take Hummels

Hummels its tactically superior but cant compete with pepe physically

As stated before, Hummels will get beat on a 1-on-1 9 times out of 10 unlike Pepe who is likely to win all imo

right now it's still Pepe overall but not by a lot. CBs probably benefit more from their experience than players on any other position. hummels clearly has all the tools to become better than him and eventually will. puttin in some extra shifts in the gym will bring his composure to a comparable level and that's pretty much the only edge pepe has over him.

since you said defensively i have to go with hummels.. if you said athletically id say pepe

Hummels ain't no slouch, so I don't know where these "physically superior" comparisons come from. Hell, Hummels has an extra inch on Pepe, and I'd say is a much better header. Nevermind him playing in the German league were players are naturally physically tougher than in La Liga.

As for pure strength, yeah, Pepe might be a bit stronger. The one thing Pepe clearly rapes Hummels in is in speed. But there really ain't that much of a physical superiority as some guys put it. Hummels is a wall for Dortmund, and might have off days for Germany, but he's still young as fack and very young NT wise. Give him time.

Right now it's a tough choice. So I'm going with Toffer's conclusion. Pepe might be a bit more experienced, but Hummels has twice the potential.

Exactly my point XD

pepe is a physical specimen- thats why people bring up the physical aspect.. i cant think of a more fast, strong, quick, and powerful CB.. but obviously he has his tactical faults or else he would be one of the best.
