Why is Oscar in that lineup?
Barca have been tracking Oscar for a couple years but all of a sudden he would sign for Spurs?
GTFO.

Dzagoev is a more realistic target No?

Why does Arsenal need an attacking midfielder?
Don't you think they need a defensive midfielder a lot more than that?

Nah, I hope they go for a 3 man midfield.
Song-Arteta-Wilshire
All 3 offer something defensively, they should be fine.
They need a AM to get some chances for Walcott/Podolski/Giroud they could seriously use a Ozil.

Exactly what i have been thinking/saying for years, practically all thier midfielders can create and attack but hardly any of them can defend.
I dont understand this we need an AM talk from Arsenal fans, they really dont.

But if they play those three than there is no room for an attacking mid?
Unless you're suggesting they switch to a 4 man midfield?

Re: Summer Transfer Rumour Thread Pt. 3
Tottenham agree to sign Man U. youngster Zeki Fryers
As seen on the side of Goal Legacy...don't know if this is old news or not.
--->Tottenham have agreed to sign defender Zeki Fryers in a move that has infuriated Manchester United and will be resolved at a tribunal.
The 19-year-old has accepted a £20,000-a-week contract offer to move to White Hart Lane after his contract with United expired this summer and he refused to sign a new deal as they would not meet his wage demands.
The Red Devils are entitled to compensation as they brought Fryers through their youth system, but the fee will be decided by an independent tribunal as the Old Trafford club want £6 million for the left-back while Spurs rate him at around £2m.
Fryers is understood to have been told that he will go straight into the Spurs first-team squad under new head coach Andre Villas-Boas as competition for Benoit Assou-Ekotto, with Danny Rose likely to leave the Londoners this summer.
The defender, who broke into Sir Alex Ferguson's first-team squad last season, will join Ravel Morrison and Paul Pogba as the latest promising youth prospect to turn his back on the club.
Sir Alex has already expressed concerns over the full-back’s future, admitting that the club had not been in contact with him during the post-season break.
"We haven't heard anything from Zeki Fryers," said the United boss to MUTV on Monday. "I don't know what's happening there but he's not been in touch with the club. His agent hasn't been in touch with the club and I can only assume he'll be back for training."
Fryers made his debut in the Red Devils’ 3-0 victory over Leeds in last season's League Cup but has not appeared in the Premier League since his side’s Boxing Day defeat to Blackburn.
The move will signal a third high-profile departure of United's brightest young talent in half a year, with Morrison having joined West Ham in January and Pogba moving to Juventus on Tuesday.
Ferguson accused Pogba of showing the Old Trafford club “a lack of respect” following his switch to the Turin giants, with the Frenchman having been locked in a contract dispute with United for a number of months.

Re: Summer Transfer Rumour Thread Pt. 3
I just hope Rodgers' coaching saves us a few quid.
I think he can improve Jose's attacking game a lot, I really want to see the Jose of first half of the season back, and not that headless chicken that he was from February to May.
Also, Pacheco to be our new false 9 , Come on BR, I believe in you.

-----Dzagoev-------
He offers a surprising workrate and and defensive cover as well, I remember him dropping deep and hassling Ozil in the first leg against us it was pretty amazing.
I know you're a fan of Fergie Football and put it in the box, lets just say I'm not a fan so I don't mind the slight lack of width...

^^ Fullbacks have a job to offer width contrary to popular belief that there one and only true job is to defend.
Dzagoev moves into space naturally meaning he will gravitate to the wings at times like Ozil, along with Song and Wilshire driving forward, that's enough for me.

Re: Summer Transfer Rumour Thread Pt. 3
Narrow systems dont really work in England due to the heavy emphasis on wing play..... it's all fine and dandy asking the fullbacks to provide width but this is only viable if the team in possession has a lot of posession because other wise you are vulnerable to to many 2 v 1 attacks out wide.
There's too many draw backs to narrow systems to work in England for them to prove a worthwhile alternative to the usual systems.
It would be nice to see them used but i cant see it somehow, teams dont really have the tools to bypass all the weaknesses that narrow systems bring in english football or at least most teams dont.

Re: Summer Transfer Rumour Thread Pt. 3
But Mole, that system is not deathly narrow.
Look at your lineup for example, Ba and Ben Arfa don't offer width...they force the defense to be compact...I was guessing that's why you're pushing Debucy so hard because you understand that to have true success the fullbacks need to offer width,
I Understand you play both Tiote and Cabaye but, Song should have it handled on the right and though It's asking alot of Wilshire I think Vermalelen with his speed can offer some coverage as well as Arteta.
The system isn't completely devoid of width it simply doesn't come conventionally.

Re: Summer Transfer Rumour Thread Pt. 3
They do offer width though.... yes they have license to come inside but they do offer width which we play 4-3-3 and not 4-3-1-2.
Especially Ben Arfa who has gone outside the fullback on many occasions and put crosses or a cut back into the box.
The main reason we are pushing Debuchy so much is because we want two attacking fullbacks who can keep possession and contribute to the attack not really to provide width although they will help with that too.
Atm we have Simpson who.... 1. Cant defend 1 v 1 2. Cant keep hold of the ball for more than 2 seconds 3. Going forward Makes Arbeloa look like Marcelo.
I would love to see more intricate and narrow systems being used but i cant see PL teams sacrificing the direct wing play they all rely on for control and possession.
The best teams in the league seem to mix the two together but i cant see a narrow system devoid of very little width being successful.
They have all failed in the past anyway.

Man City have tried it. Silva usually cuts in along with Nasri and both of them roam around.

Re: Summer Transfer Rumour Thread Pt. 3
Ba and Ben Arfa offer no more width than Walcott and Podolski....even if the do not much more.
How about..Man City?
Their only source of width is Aguero + the fullbacks.
Gervinhio and AOC on the bench to step in if neccesary...this isn't a huge huge problem.
Both Wilshire and Song and Dzagoev are capable of going past a fullback and putting in a cross, though that's not how I would prefer it, the options are there for such play within this system. But it's not preferable or your immediate instinct because you need possession to protect a relatively weak midfield.
