He was in his 30's, wasn't playing much and had a high wage demand? Also Modric is younger.

Nils Petersen of Bayern Munchen has transferred to Bremen on 1 years long loan deal.
Re: Summer Transfer Rumour Thread Pt. 3
Redknapp wanted Balotelli:
"I actually tried to sign him for Tottenham before he went to Manchester City. I'd admired him for a while and I went over to Italy to watch him play. I was impressed and I met up with him, too.
"We wanted him on a loan deal but his club weren't keen and it never happened. Shame, because he's definitely got it and, at only 21-years-old, he'll be terrorising defenders for many seasons to come."

Re: Summer Transfer Rumour Thread Pt. 3
We must not give up hope...
Vertonghen deal nearly done
Tottenham should not give up hope of signing Jan Vertonghen, despite the current contract dispute with the Holland club with is threatening to scupper the deal, says Ajax boss Frank de Boer.
De Boer believes the deal remains very close, despite Vertonghen's recent admission that he may have to stay with the Eredivisie outfor for another year.
Vertonghen is entitled to 15 per cent of the agreed £9.5million transfer deal under the terms of his deal with the Dutch champions.
Ajax have indicated their reluctance to honour the clause and, while the 25-year-old still seeks a move to White Hart Lane, but the manager believes the deal can happen.
'We’re very close,' De Boer said. 'But if the deal is not done, Jan must start his training next week with us.
'I was in the same situation (when he left Ajax for Barcelona in 1999). But, eventually, I expect the deal will be done. I expect everything will be alright.'
While I am reluctant to trust the Daily Mail, those are his own words, and other sites say the same.

Sportitalia is now reporting that Lucio will reject Malaga's offer of 2.6m to sign for Juve, who are offering him 2.2m per season. Apparently the deal was already in place, hence why he consented to the contract termination.
In addition to that they are also close to the contract termination of Diego Forlan.Maybe even with Julio Cesar but it is more difficult.
Inter want to to get rid of players with heavy engagements.

Milan: 'We might sign Destro'
Adriano Galliani has confirmed Milan “might bring in Mattia Destro” after negotiations with Siena and Genoa.
The striker is co-owned by Siena and Genoa, but has been linked with Italy’s top clubs over the past couple of weeks.
“Thiago Silva will stay at Milan and we might bring in Destro,” Vice-President Adriano Galliani told Sky Sport Italia.
On Friday evening reports emerged that the Rossoneri had joined the race that already included Roma, Inter and Juventus.
“Milan are a great club, so their interest is not surprising,” Siena director of sport Stefano Antonelli told Sky Sport Italia.
“I would be honoured to keep Destro, as he is one of the brightest young talents in Italy, but we know it would be tough.”
Up until now Roma had been the most likely candidates to take Destro, though Siena deny this.
“There are no favourites in the race. Every club can speak to us or with Genoa. There are many clubs interested and Roma are among them.”

Re: Summer Transfer Rumour Thread Pt. 3
Mino Raiola has taken the time to talk of his market situation, again.
“I am very happy for the Azzurri and for Mario,” revealed Mino Raiola on Radio Monte Carlo.
“Balotelli can drag Italy to change a certain mentality they have as a country.
“His future? From last night I have already had many requests as to his availability, but we have told them all that we want to stay for three or four seasons in the Premier League.
“Remember, he is only 21-years-old.”

Actually Malaga's offer was higher so there was a slight disagreement with us.
With this raised offer ,he will sign with us by Monday, reports believe.

Isla explains Real Madrid comments
Mauricio Isla is excited about joining “the best team in Italy” Juventus, but admits he still dreams of Real Madrid.
The Udinese winger has already undergone his medical and will sign for the Turin giants over the next few days.
“One day I will play for Real Madrid,” he told Chilean television this week, but took to Twitter to explain himself.
“Juventus are the reality and the best team in Italy... I will play with all my heart to win many trophies.
“Real Madrid remain only a dream.”
........................................
This is what he said earlier.

Yeah Sky Sport Italia says we're preparing an offer of 3.5m plus Leandro Greco to Chievo. It's quite a fair deal and I don't expect Chievo to balk at it.
Bradley himself is said to be excited about the prospect as well according to his agent.
