True enough, but France were shit without him and i cant think of many players who have been good in all 3 games.
Yeah, its funny how France conceded 2 with 2 DMs lol and both of them highly rated DMs. While when poor mans borjito was there France were creating and defending better.
Cabaye is to France what Schweignsteiger is to Bayern he assists the defence so much more and helps on the creative side as well.... infact the way he plays reminds a lot of Schweignsteiger no where near as good ofcourse but what he brings to the team.

As much as I like Özil, he has no place in there. Not so far atleast.

France never needed to think about defence against England and Ukraine, and Cabaye is not similar to Schweini lol
Schweini doesn't even create much he assists the defence and sprays balls, its the attackers who do the other jobs
If Cabaye had played he would have been lost out there, i mean Benz/Ribery/Ben Arfa/Nasri who have been the better players this Tournaments were just lost, didn't know what to do with the ball, so they relied on long shots which 98% of didn't even hit the target, i fail to see what Cabaye would have helped with
@urban, Ozil might not have bagged himself lots of assists but he has been good better than the rest thats for sure... its hard to choose because midfielders have never had 3 good games in a row

Selassie-Pirlo-Cabaye/Gerrard-Lahm
Ibracadabra
Gomez/Silva-Cassano/Sheva
I really wanted to put in DDR but it was difficult since 2 matches played superbly as a Sweeper and the other in his CM position.
Guys like Marchisio and Khedira were highly underrated this tournament and are almost harshly overlooked.

Re: Team of the Group Stage
definitely agree about Marchisio and Khedira , though about Marchisio , others in the team were more important and impressed more , like Buffon , Pirlo , Cassano e.t.c.
Khedira though , done exactly what's expected from him , nothing more nothing less. I haven't seen him put a foot wrong so far , most under rated player so far amonst the best teams at least.

No doubt.
But the point on Marchisio and its relation on Khedria was to emphasize on how some of the less noticed players on the team are overlooked. Marchisio was near if not brilliant in my opinion as with his sheer intelligent play and excellent technical skill, he just makes the team play better through his footballing brain and very capable feet.
Only thing I wish from him is maybe a bit more initiative in some areas.
As otherwise I have no complaints from this very complete player.

Re: Team of the Group Stage
No arguements there Arquitecto . They both have been overlooked so far , but anyway , what can you do.
Especialy Marchisio has been really important for Italy so far . Frequently roaming forward to shoot , coming back to defend immediately , always there in the right place and from the first to ask to receive the ball.. and that's not even half of what he did so far
Impressive , to say the least .

GK: Stephan Andersen
RB: Debuchy
CB: Agger
CB: Hummels
LB: Lahm
CM: Schweinsteiger
CM: Cabaye
CM: Pirlo
AM/SS: Silva
AM/SS: Iniesta
ST: Gomez
This would probably be my team, in some kind of Christmas tree formation

Re: Team of the Group Stage
Tough, very tough. Not many outstanding performing and tons of players filling in important roles without really standing individually.
I would go with.
------------------------------- Pletikosa---------------------------
G.Selassie-----------Hummels------------Agger-------------Coentrao
----------------------------Pirlo----------Karagounis------------------------
---------------- Dzagoev-----Silva-----------------Iniesta---------------
-------------------------------- Ibrahimovic-----------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nobody up front, clearly Ibra is not playing as a 9, but a second striker as per usual.
Unbalanced, but this is best 11, not most workable team.
edit: Not one French player...seems wrong. Ribery, Nasri, Cabaye, Debuchy and even Clichy all were close I must note.

Andersen was really important for Denmark. I would have picked him , if it weren't for the usual GOAT performer Casillas .

I put him in because, i felt he derserved a mention, even though Casillas has been great too, but Andersen's support apart from Agger was non excistantDante wrote:Freeza wrote:GK: Stephan Andersen

I am actually surprised of so many people picking Dzagoev, he showed great finishing, but he didnt impress me over that. Surely his goals counted a great deal for his team and he deserves a mention, i just wouldnt put him in the "best"

Well im not sure who to take over him.
I felt it was between him, Nasri and Salpingidis or Nani in terms of players playing that position.
Nasri was great in the England game, not so great the rest of the time. Nani set up peiple, but didnt really have a great overall game. Salpingidis played very well and he changed the game for Greece when he played over Ninis.
But yeah, Dzagoev's goals were too big an impact to leave out without being too convinced by someone else.
