Who will be the surprise early exit team?
Which top team will be the surprise group stage exit?
2010 treated us to France and Italy
2014 to England and Italy
What will 2018 bring?

Portugal isn't
Then the answer would be none, realistically.

Yeah to be fair England, Italy, etc. weren't top teams when they went out
It's more "big name" teams than actually top teams.
I'm thinking Belgium or Portugal

Well it wouldn't be much of a surprise if we all expected them to go out

There is no universe in which you can convince me that Costa Rica is more of a top team than England and ItalyCruijf wrote:Yeah to be fair England, Italy, etc. weren't top teams when they went out

Expect Argentina's group to be decided in the last matchday though with Argentina somehow sneaking through and probably finish 2nd.
If that counts as a 'surprise'.

You seen that group? There is no way Lord Leo is losing to those NPCs from Skyrim, a team with just a good midfield and Nigeria who he destroyed last World Cup. They'll get 9 points comfortably.

We lost 4-0 to Nigeria in a friendly, Croatia and Iceland are no joke either. I don't think we'll get kicked out, but I think our group is the 'toughest' and likeliest to produce an upset.

Re: Which top team will be the surprise group stage exit?
Unlike previous editions, you dont have a clear cut group of death. You have some big names who are struggling and some competitive teams who dont have the big team pedigree but could spring a surprise. The make-up of Argentina's group for example is based along those lines. Brazil are drawn in another competitive group but they are overwhelming favourites either way.
In the last edition for example, you had Spain, Netherlands and Chile drawn in the same group. 3 teams in the top 10 rankings. And there was England, Uruguay and Italy as well.

Why are people questioning Portugal's inclusion as a top team and not Belgium's?

They're both trash, and I know Portugal actually beat them in the Euro so they're probably better, but Belgium at least has a lot of high-profile names. So they at least fit the bill for a team that should do well but probably won't.

Ah yes, yes I did.
So that's a trend, right?
2006 Champions --> Out in 2010 WC
2010 Champions --> Out in 2014 WC
2014 Champions --> Germany it is?
