Member of the month?
I just thought that maybe allowing members to vote for their member of the month would help the forum grow a bit better. To fit the criteria, members should vote for who they thought posted in depth, or generally good posts, posts within a month, or someone who brought about entertainment, it's usually given to the former, but maybe we should vary our options.
Just a suggestion.
Just a suggestion.

I like this idea. It's not too bad. But we would need to have the people vote on a poll rather than the mods choosing someone because i don't think they have the time to go through sooo many posts and choose a winner.

Re: Member of the month?
The only drawback is that things like this usually end up as popularity contest. Personally I'm not too fond of such as it can cause a lot of butthurt, but let's say what other people say.

Re: Member of the month?
It's not a bad idea, but as already mentioned, it would essentially be a popularity contest.
Only way we could ensure that the proper posters get a fair chance is if we( mods and Admins) voted only.

Same concept as employee of the month. Good performance is rewarded with recognition.

To troll and act like morons? We see enough of that already from the established and admitted ones. I'd rather not see it from posters who are better than that.

You really think good posters will start acting stupid because of a monthly popularity contest? Doubtful.
Idk I just think with the absence of Kudos and a proper rep system, something like this could be good.
All I know is, is that when I was new to the original forum, I loved the Kudos system. Still reminiscent of it

Re: Member of the month?
The kudos system was abused. People were getting more kudos for having a birthday than making a good post. It did not help the quality of posting anymore than the current rep system does.The_ItalianFool wrote:McLewis wrote:The_ItalianFool wrote:What's wrong with a popularity contest?

Maybe not better quality (maybe so), but definitely more active back then. How much worse quality can we get? I guess y'all have a point, however.

Well, but in that case the Admins & Mods would likely be accused of favouritism. It will be a lose-lose situation.

Re: Member of the month?
The Member of the Month would switch between only a couple people, partially because as other people have said before, it would be a popularity contest, but also because the people that do give great posts with depth and bring up great topics of discussion etc. are almost always the same people.
People that post badly will almost always post badly, people who post well will almost always post well.
Besides, I doubt anyone hear bar moderators (and I'm not sure even about them) is on here for enough time of the day (and every day in the month) to look through each section and a lot of threads, especially through every club section where the real quality posts/posters tend to be. And therefore it would not be accurate.
For example, Alex and Messixaviesta almost always bring great discussion to the table in the Barca forum, but never really go anywhere else. They won't get nominated or voted for, other than Barca fans (for the most part) even though they probably deserve it most. Obviously this does have to do with the whole 'popularity contest' opinion, but it's true.

Yeah valid. I think this would have to be more for gen section rather than every sub forum.

Re: Member of the month?
I just don't really think it would work in any capacity.
Too much work and risk for something that probably will never accurately reflect a Member of the Month anyway. And even that's a challenge, finding one, with the number of people we have here.
I can imagine the arguments already- either that...or people won't care about it.
I guess I have a hard time seeing it work correctly.

Re: Member of the month?
But if it is only for the General Section, it would be unfair to quality posters that only post in subsections. Hence it might even discourage those to post and so the contest would actually hurt the forum.
Well, in the forums where I was admin, I always deactivated any rep/kudos system completely and it was actually better for the mood. No pos / neg evaluations = less butthurt and frustration, envy and anger.
