Portugal to overtake France and Italy, Spain to overtake England

With 5 teams left in Europe Spain will probably overtake England in coefficient unless Chelsea win the CL. Portugal will overtake France and maybe Italy if it's remaining team in Europe wins the rest of its games. Will Serie A (and EPL) continue to play second teams in the Europa league?

people dont care about coefficients in england, unless sky tells them to care about it lol

I dont care if EPL is 1st 2nd or 3rd as long as we have 4 CL spots. I will start to worry if bundesliga overtakes us.

But dont think teams will care about the EL in here unless the incentive of winning it is better. Like a spot in the CL, or massive ammount of money

Yah the winner of the EL should get a spot in the CL. A very simple solution. Don't understand why it hasn't been implemented yet.

because they then have to remove a spot from one of the leagues i suppose

so they can do that ^^ . i am in favour of this solution ..

Its silly to blame the teams participating EL alone for the coefficient lose.

EL coefficient points are half that of CL co points.So CL does have a big advantage on coefficient points.Blame the CL clubs actually.

Europa League points count the same as Champions League points. The only thing affecting points is number of total teams from the league participating.

So the total points won in CL and EL by a league are divided by the number of teams participating in the two competitions.

First qualifying round elimination – 0.5 points
Second qualifying round elimination – 1 point
Group stage participation – 4 points
Group stage win – 2 points
Group stage draw – 1 point
Round of 16 participation – 4 points

Since 2009/10 clubs have been awarded an additional point if they reach the round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals or final.
NB Points are not awarded for elimination in the third qualifying round or play-offs, since those clubs move to the UEFA Europa League and are awarded points for participation in that competition.

It has 4 points for Group stage participation while EL has only 2

CL has 4 points again for R 16 participation but EL only has 2

really??? dont think any team other than Man U can win the EPL trophy, Bilbao are in the final of the Copa Del Rey as well, the competition for fourth spot is very tense in LaLiga with the teams still in this competition competing with each other for the Europe spots. Very silly excuse

So basically next year when Newcastle plays in the EL, they should play their 2nd team because they have a better chance of winning the EPL. lol gimme a break

Yes, there is not enough depth, to compete in both the league and the EL. When there is no much benefit.

I don't get why Italian teams don't just get cut down on Europa League spots instead of Champions League spots, we're clearly a more competitive league in champions league than Portugal, Germany, France. but Spain do deserve that overtaking of England, they have been doing very well to my surprise lately on top of Barcelona and Real Madrid, but we'll see how they do in champions league I guess.

CL has advantage ,and it is there to see.

The leagues we are talking about play from the group stage on in the EL, so it is roughly equivalent, the bonus points are not that influential overall. Success (wins) in the EL make the difference in co-efficients.

I think the Italian FA should take this into their own hands. If Italy's problem is that the teams in the EL don't care enough because the financial incentives are not large enough, then the Italian FA should give a bonus to every team in the EL that gives them more coefficient points. Enough complaining, time to do something about it.
