Since Hierro left we've spent 147m Euros on defenders.

As much as I want to see Ramos stay at RB for a couple more years, we can't deny that Coentrao is coming. It will be announced this weekend or early next week. Varane is coming in to replace Garay (for now).It will likely (hopefully) push Albiol further down the bench.

Not sound like a d1ck or anything but the transfers have been scheduled to be announced this week or next week or weekend for a month now. Forgive me if I'm a bit cynical by the whole thing.

July 1st is the date when the club has a new operating budget. You won't see anything until then. Same thing happened last year. If you noticed on Varane signing, Madrid guaranteed payment as of July 1st (and that was a relatively small amount for a signing that we were in severe competition with others).

As the saying goes, we'll see. So you're strongly confident that Coentrao would be signed Bill?!

Absolutely. I expect it is either announced this Saturday or Monday. Only question (in my mind) is who is the player(s) going to Benfica?

Well Coentrao is more of a proven player, Varane is for the future.

Yes he is for the future, but I think its fair to give him a couple of games in the next upcoming season as a sub.

I think he should be loaned out for next season, we still have Carvalho and Albiol as backups.

Carvalho is getting old and more of a injury prone and albilol isint the defender we can lay our trust on..
Loan him or play him as a backup defender, I wouldnt mind still.

any news on his loan situation? the kid needs to be loaned to a high level club he would be able to play ASAP.. hopefully a CL or EL team, preferably in spain or portugal.

what are the chances he lands at villareal, valencia, or sevilla next year for a loan period?

Varane will be fine especially if we end up selling Lass and Gago like its being reported. He will get plenty of minutes either in midfield or defence

Raphäel Varane has passed his university entrance exams in France, with a specialty in social sciences and economics. In the last year, Varane combined his studies at the Gaillette center with playing for Lens.

That's an achievement truly. It's very tough to combine pro sports with studies successfully. The Bac is not as tough as it used to be in France (in my days, it was a bear); but it's nothing to sneeze at. The time commitment is big.

Now that he can fully dedicate himself to football, he should get even better.

Yeah that's why I posted it, thought it was a great achievement, performing like he did in the top League in France as well as keeping up with his studies. Pretty extraordinary.
