So? He can surely find some games to test him in his natural position. Not to mention that Gomez usually flops in the big matches and Klose isn't getting any younger. Klose should only be a super-sub. This change would also make one place for Schürrle/Reus who would add even more options in attack.

That's one of Löw's flaws actually. He's too predictable.

Good that we do have international friendlies after all Razz

BTW, Gomez floppin in big matches is actually a myth. In the recently time he did score in many matches that mattered. Unfortunately he didn't manage to do it in ALL matches that mattered, but them, a team has 10 field players (10.5 if you have Neuer).

At 12:45 GMT+2 (in about 10 minutes) the DFB will hold the press conference before the start of the World Cup qualifiers with Hansi Flick, Philipp Lahm and Ilkay Gündoǵan. As usual a live stream is available at the DFB site.

Hansi Flick:
- Toni Kroos is slightly injured and can't play against the Faroe Islands.
- Philipp Lahm will play RB, Marcel Schmelzer LB
- Marco Reus will play for sure
- 3 spots in the team for tomorrow are still undecided
- Hansi Flick would love to have some more options in the striker and fullback positions (looks like they don't consider Kießling etc at all)

Ilkay Gündogan:
Ze German Thread - Page 9 Sc-ilk10
- He would play for the U21 still if he would be asked, but of course he sees it as bigger honour to play for the A-Nationalmannschaft (senior team).
- The style of the NT will incorporate more characteristics of Dortmund which will fit better with the Dortmund players.

Philipp Lahm:
Ze German Thread - Page 9 Sc-lah10
- He states again that he wants to win the World Cup 2014.
- The German NT wants to start well, even if the Faroe Islands will be very defensive and probably not so easy to play against.
- Lahm is happy that he can play RB now. He only played LB for the good of the NT, but he prefers to play RB.
- We are working to eradicate the tactical mistakes we made during the Euro.
- Lahm is the second oldest after Miro Klose at the moment and he is proud to be captain of the young team.
- It is something special to play in a team that is strong enough to compete for a title in each contest it enters, even if it doesn't manage to win it in the end.
- The German NT improves in dictating a match instead of just reacting and countering.

So I assume it'll be Gündogan and Khedira as holding mids, I guess. I'm curious as to where Reus is going to be played...

But I do like the decision to try and play more like Dortmund, with the intense pressing high up the pitch, etc. - more pressure on the opposition means less pressure on us.

Thanks for reminding me! They show the match live at Sport1, and I just switched in to see Yesil's goal (in the second minute of the match XD). Bayer Leverkusen were truly stupid to sell him for an apple and an egg...

FT Germany U19 3:1 England U19

2 goals and 1 assist by Yesil. Nice job! The English goal was a beauty, too.

Germany U21 vs Belarus U21 (Qualification match for the U21 Euro 2013 in Israel) just started.

Tasty line-up for Germany:

Leno
Jantschke - Kirchhoff - Sobiech - Thesker
Leitner - Rode
Beister - Holtby (c) - Bellarabi
Volland

The German U21 won 8 of 8 matches so far in the qualifiers.

The subs:
Peniel Mlapa for Kevin Volland (46.)
Sebastian Polter for Moritz Leitner (68.)
Patrick Herrmann for Karim Bellarabi (68.)

Finally the 1:0 for Germany in the 58th minute by Maxi Beister (HSV) after the Czech ref already denied us two clear penalties. It's a very taxing match as Belarus mixed quite a bit of concrete there so far and defended well with two solid walls of 4.

So, the 3rd call for a penalty (hand this time) was finally given. Moritz Leitner (Borussia Dortmund) scores with a confident shot in the 63th minute and it is 2:0.

In the 75th minute the 3:0 by Sebastian Polter (1.FC Nürnberg) after a great assist from Patrick Herrmann (Borussia M'gladbach).

FT Germany U21 3:0 Belarus U 21

9th win in the 9th qualification match. Nice job!

Only just found this thread again...

Any information about Yesil you could educate me about? I've only seen the highlights of the 3-1 win against the England u/21's at the moment... seems like a classy player.

Well, Samed Yesil is considered to be one of the greatest striker talents of his age in Germany. It is not exactly clear why Leverkusen sold him for practically just an apple and an egg. There are always talks about some buy-back clause, but this is obviously kept well under wraps and I haven't found out anything proper about it.

BTW, there are some rumours that is agent Reza Fazeli might have had some hand in all of it as he is renowned for trying to look for transfers for his players that are most profitable for him. So it is well likely that he might see Liverpool as a stepping stone to create an even more lucrative transfer afterwards as the transfers within the BL usually are a bit more reasonable than especially in England.

As a player, Yesil always looked very good in the German U17 NT, U18 NT and also now in the U19 NT. He didn't quite make the jump to the first team of Bayer yet and only sat on the Bench 4 times for the seniors as he was playing for the Bayer II team so far. I think he will probably stay with the Liverpool reserves for the time being, too, as he is yet unproven with the seniors. But IMO he is a really promising lad as a player. I'd be just wary about his agent.

In the U20 World Cup final in Japan, Germany U20 is taking on USA U20 right now. The German team scored 15 goals in the 5 matches so far and allowed not a single goal in. Go Germany!!

Gahhh. FT USA 1:0 Germany. A goal by Ohai in the 44th minute was enough to give the USA the gold medal today.

In the 3rd place match, Japan U20 defeated Nigeria U20 and took the bronze medal, btw.

Thanks for the insight rwo. Looking forward to Yesil breaking through at Liverpool. We have no "strikers" (Suarez is a SS) at the club; so he'll most likely be given a chance.

*Regarding this option with Leverkusen, not sure if it's true or not, but apparently Leverkusen has first option to buy him if we decide to sell him. There's apparently no buy back option as we can refuse their offer but Leverkusen gets the first option.

*All rumours. Nothing official.

Still don't understand why Schurrle gets called to the senior team and Holtby doesnt. Holtby was better for Mainz when they were both there, and is just as, if not better for Schalke than Schurrle is for Bayer. At least from what I've seen.

Simple. Lewis Holtby is the U21 captain and Rainer Adrion wants the U21 to qualify for the Euro2013 in Israel. Holtby is playing a very important role in that team, and he is more valuable there than possibly on the bench of the A-Nationalmannschaft. And if you remember what became of the U21 that won the Euro in 2009, I don't think it is any cause for alarm if Holtby plays for them a little bit longer.
