Terrible terrible. We just did not control anything. The entire team was horrendous, save Romero and Higuain's knack for taking chances when they count for Argentina.

I'm not completely sure how much blame should go on Sabella here. I mean, on paper, our midfield is fine. Peru came out really intense and our mids were just too slow to get rid of the ball or too slow to find the pass. This I think is the problem with Gago. Under some pressure he is going to make a mistake. Mascherano was completely anonymous, no accurate and confident passes forward like against germany. Di maria was atrocious, as well as Messi.

and Rojo, wtf.. our full back problem is really starting to get on my nerves. Rojo was destroyed time and time again and almost all of peru's attacks came from that side. Campagnaro was meh, we can still do better there for fullbacks

Lavezzi was also meh, I mean he ran alot and assisted the goal but in all honesty he did little beyond that.

Gago for Guinazu? really? Biglia on the bench and you bring on Guinazu . Guinazu has not showed he can provide ANYTHING to the NT while Biglia did more 3-4 minutes last game than Guinazu EVER did.

We could have easily lost by more. Sabella needs to make better call-ups (not going to happen unless the media really tears into him)or I could see it ending pretty badly in 2014

Why do Argentina insist on playing with 4 attacks?

Why not just play Messi Di Maria and Higuain in front and load an extra midfielder, hell you could even play Di Maria and Messi behind Higuain or a number of different possibilities but at least this way they would have an extra midfielder or DM and not be over run in every single game.

Doesn't fix the fact Argentina will continue to struggle in the back.

Messi only arrived today at 3 in the morning so he didn't participate.

The interesting thing about that line-up is that Garay is out for Campagnar, and Zabaleta is back in his RB spot. I'm a fan of Garay, but let's see how this goes.

Was thinking about this before sleeping. Can this Argentina side work ?

I think in the defense Zabaleta is too average and Jonas would get raped defensively. I've liked what I've seen from Campagnaro on the right, and Peruzzi is an exciting prospect. I'd give Insua a try given that he starts over Rojo at Sporting (who plays as a CB there, anyway).

Mascherano is also rusty in the #5 position as he hasn't played it in 2 years, but I can't think of anyone to replace him.

Pastore would be invisible in that role, because, well, he has a tendency to go into casper mode. If Argentina's style is not highly dynamic I might consider Riquelme there, otherwise Aimar or Messi if you're set on playing an AM.

Even if Peruzzi doesn't play, I hope he keeps getting the call so he works with the team. He is very promising in both attack and defence. Our LB is still a problem. Does Rojo play as a LB for his club?

Sorry if I wasn't clear. At Sporting, Rojo plays CB and Insua LB.

How about Ansaldi, Otamendi and Garay for the defense?

Pastore has a lot more maturing to do to play as a center mid, Jonas hasn't played in defense in 2 years, and that was a massive failure last time, although I'd like to see him as a wingback/defensive winger in a 343/523.

Otamendi hasn't played for the NT in almost a year. I wouldn't want him to get in there. Garay has been okay as of late with the NT but nothing special, FedFern has outshined him IMO.

The reality with Ansaldi is, that it is unlikely Sabella will be calling him up any time soon. Should join another league imo.

Wasn't Tevez a massive problem last time he played with Argentina? I don't think the guy has changed at all, and it would be a massive risk to start to integrate him into the team before 2014.
