Re: Who is the best footballer in the world - off the pitch?
^That, i believe, is the first time i've seen Rooney being described as a "high class gentlemen".
Zlatan Ibrahimovic is the only off pitch footballer i remotely like as a person. Does whatever he wants, is arrogant yet successful.

Drogba, by damn far.
I don't know how much work Eto'o does, but he also has a charity and seems to be active so honorable mention to him, too.

To the people that are only posting a name, stop it. That's not productive. If you make a claim, back it up with at least a sentence.

Not everyone is a premier league footballer playing for one of the biggest teams in the world
Well some people have jobs that actually help society not to just kick a freaking ball.

Probably Drogba. When he's not being a boss on the field, he spends most of his time doing charity work around the world
Extra difficult for a top, famous player when you consider how easy it is to fall into the pitfalls.

Re: Who is the best footballer in the world - off the pitch?
Balotelli easy.
- He's a BOSS.
- He's eccentric. (Visits female prisons, is a fireworks enthusiast, decorates cakes, enjoys throwing darts)
- He does charity work (Passes out money during Christmas time, and routinely donates money to the homeless)
- He's very mature. (When he eats, he doesn't wear a bib...)

Raul, absolute gentleman on and off the field. I dont think i need to say why for this guy in particular. Others who are also in his level are: Del Piero, also I think we have to give credit to Beckham for maintaining such a good image. You never really read anything bad about him, a great gentleman.

I'm not saying his job is more precious to society, I meant, as KSA said, that it is easier to fall into the pitfalls when famous compared to the average mans job but that is also debatable.

Re: Who is the best footballer in the world - off the pitch?
Didier Drogba and Iker Casillas
Iker Casillas spends every single one of his holidays doing philanthropic work all over the world from Africa to Asia
Drogba's work in Africa, building schools and hospitals and his work with Aids awareness is also amazing
Both players are exemplary role models for what they do for other people and the effort they put in to better other peoples lives other than their own
Both players are also UN Goodwill Ambassador's

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/features/3237827/Didier-Drogbas-charity-work-shows-how-footballers-ought-to-behave.html
I never used to like Drogba personally, hated him when he used to dive all over place. But after reading a few articles about him like the one above I changed my opinion of him greatly.
Craig Bellamy is another, allot of footballers put their names to charities for positive publicity. But Drogba & Bellamy are 2 that actually do an awful lot and dont really get the credit they deserve.

To say Drogba stopped civil war from happening in Ivory Coast after the supposedly fraud elections is exaggerating. He said that there shouldn't be a war and went there to persuade people but it's not like he stopped it.

Re: Who is the best footballer in the world - off the pitch?
Probably Mario Balotelli.
Sets his house on fire, becomes a fireworks safety spokesman.
Visits female prisons.
Buys trampolines.
TRAMPOLINES.
If you're so big on the humble pie train, which is a good way to judge off the pitch behaviour, I'll throw in Miroslav Klose and Lukas Podolski, our polish-born strikers.
Both never do anything controversial, both are family men, both are incredibly humble, and while Klose is even almost shy, Podolski is just incredibly grounded. Plus these days during carnival he throws candy around like a boss.
