These things are so strange.

Maybe its possible Rooney reached a higher top speed than Robben at some point (still doubt it). But put them both on the half way line and Robben is getting into the box first, easily.

Acceleration is more important than top speed IMO. Out-sprinting your team mates in training is meaningless compared to being able to put on a good turn of pace in a game.

There is so much of these numbers thrown everywhere that you don't know what's legit tbh. Even that article doesn't mention who even clocked that speed, it just quotes FIFA's original records.

Also the situation differs every time you clock the speed as no football match is the same.

Well yeah, the data will be incomplete too just because they don't have the gun going all the time anyway so there are probably a ton of players out there that have reached higher speeds than what they are showing. I'm sure Aubameyang would be in there if they clocked him at his top speed amongst others.

Still, some neat figures. I always figured that Robben and Bale were probably the two quickest.

When Bellerin sprinted half the pitch to rape Young, how does he not make top 10?

This is probably not an all time rating,it's this season's rating more likely.Remarkable athleticism from Rooney.

How are they measuring this? I very much doubt it has the accuracy of 1/10 of a km/h.

Because I simply refuse to believe Antonio Valencia is the fastest player in the world, when you have the likes of Robben, Messi, Walcott, Bellerin etc. waiting in the wings

No idea how it's measured.

I saw one of those speed rankings earlier this year. They measured the top speed across all competitions. It doesn’t account for a lot of things, though. Obviously, you won’t get an accurate reading of who’s actually the fastest, unless all of them try to actually sprint as fast as they can. It’s still interesting to see how the bar keeps being raised, though.

well i guess if you don't defend all game and walk around the pitch ... and suddenly only have to sprint during a counter-attack.... you will be faster as you have conserved your energy.

which makes Ashraf's speed more impressive as he goes back and forth and has to constantly defend.

I honestly didn't expect Haland (At that height) being that fast.... usually tall players are slow af.
