Worth more than 5m as there is a slight chance he will return to pre 09 form.

I agree i was just talking from a realistic point of view, we would never pay that sort of money for a 30+ CM.....
But if we did i probably would yh.

Re: Would you buy Essien?
Not sure any team would gamble buying him. he is 30 years old and only teams I can see paying big for him is PSG or Man City or that Chakmaklakwhakxabka Russian team.
Big wages and and the wrong side of 30.

Re: Would you buy Essien?
I dont believe he is 29 or 30....just putting that out there.
But no, his game was built on energy and physical attiributes, which are fading fast.
Would take him instead of Keita though.

Re: Would you buy Essien?
Also Essien would'nt succeed in Italy IMO he doesnt have the tactical brain that it takes to succeed there......
Muntari was a beast over here and looked utterly awful in Italy.

Just tell him him, essien sit here and protect the back four, anyone who tries to get through kick them to death Scott Parker style
If an Italian team doesn't come in for him, maybe one in France will Lyon or PSG. Ancelloti is a big fan of him plus he is a sucker for old players with experience.

Not for me.Never rated Essien even at his supposed peak.
Average technique,average positionally,average passer.
Nothing in his game that suits us.
Keita any day over the bodybuilder.

Re: Would you buy Essien?
Dont see what Keita can do he cannot. Maybe Keita is better in the air and not injury prone.
But Essien is just as good at pressing the ball, even in his declined state and he has better quickness and more physical strength. Watching Ozil strug Keita off was very dissapointing.
I am not claiming he is the best fit for us, but I would of said the same about Keita before we got him too. I would of called Keita an average passer with average technical ability who presses too much for a holding player.
Again, I dont want him, but a straight up swap for Keita I probably would take.

Re: Would you buy Essien?
Too old to be paid more than £10m for, with his form also a question mark after his injuries.
But if there was a top or above-average team that needed someone filling that central role in their midfield, Essien might be a fine addition. Like, if Tottenham didn't have Scott Parker, maybe they'd have Essien.

Not needed by us.
Milan would do quite well to get him though. Would give their AMs a platform to attack upon that van Bommel can no longer provide.

Re: Would you buy Essien?
Definitely will start over lass.
But his lack of pace will be a problem though especially when paired with Alonso.
He had great tactical awareness btw good positioning and a great tackler as well.

Perfect for Milan's 3 DM formation.Seems like an Allegri type player anyway.Could be a good replacement for Van Bommel.

Essien was born Dec 1982 . I think it should say 1972 but they made a mistake. :lucas:

Re: Would you buy Essien?
most africans dont "know" their birth date, they aren't trying to cut corners or anything its just that in africa poorer people who give birth at home dont jot down the date the baby was born simply because they dont find it important.... so the people just end up "guessing" their date of birth
