Re: Latest Arsenal Rumours
Koln striker Lukas Podolski has played down suggestions he has agreed to join Arsenal in the summer.
Reports on Wednesday had claimed the 26-year-old was on his way to the Emirates Stadium after a fee and personal terms had been successfully negotiated, but the forward insists such a move is not yet complete after choosing to clarify his position.
"Contrary to reports from the past few days, nothing has been decided yet," Podolski told LIGA Total!. "If there is something to report, then I'll do it."
Podolski's sentiments were also echoed by former Koln sporting director Volker Finke, who did not deny talks had occurred over a potential transfer, but opted to stay coy when quizzed on the details of the deal itself.
"The final die is not yet cast," Finke stated.
"It's part of the business and so it is generally agreed that only when the die is cast and everything is signed - when it comes to a transfer, as it is being discussed in the newspapers - only then can the parties involved make comments.
"It is still not settled and therefore we have no comment."
Shortly after these statements, Finke left the club by mutual agreement following a difference of opinion over the club's targets and ambitions.
Meanwhile, Podolski faces a possible three-match ban after being shown a red card during Koln's 1-0 win against Hertha Berlin on Saturday.
How AW or GODolski come out and say that the deal has been done.Tired of this hide and seek game

Re: Latest Arsenal Rumours
I got this from another news site.
Players in their early to mid 20′s without a wife or kids may go where the money is but you only have to look at players with a family to see it’s not all about that.
Beckham could have picked up mega bucks at PSG and turned them down as his kids and family are settled, Dennis was happy on a 1 year rolling deal because he was happy.
RVP loves Arsenal but more than that his whole family are here, wife, kids, sister. Do you really think he will upset his whole family for a little extra money?

Re: Latest Arsenal Rumours
BM: The question on everybody’s lips is: ‘What is he [RvP] going to do next year?’
RvP: Yes, we will see.
BM: Are you struggling with this?
RvP: No, not at all. I am doing fine, enjoying everything, training well, I am fit – knock on wood (he taps the microphone) – and all is going well.
BM: But what about people saying: ‘It’s a bit of a shame – Van Persie, who is head and shoulders above everything, playing in an Arsenal side which is not quite the very best of Arsenal sides ever’?
RvP: Well that’s funny, isn’t it? People consider this Tottenham team as the best ever and our team as the ‘worst’ (he makes a quotation mark with his fingers) ever, and we beat them 5-2: it is a bit crazy sometimes…
BM: Does that nag/hurt you a bit?
RvP: Sorry – what do you mean?
BM: Because I know why this is: everybody regards Arsenal as a higher-up team, and Tottenham, yeah – well, a bit lower-down, and when they are doing OK and Arsenal are doing less, well then people will say: oh how well Tottenham are doing, and Arsenal are performing less (below par).
RvP: Yeah, yeah, that is correct. Expectations are very high at Arsenal: we have a gigantic, beautiful, big stadium, a great number of fans, very beautiful history and people expect that we perform well right now – in the present.
BM: Do you think you [Arsenal] are performing well?
RvP: No, it can always be improved, we go for the highest achievable. In the last few years, as a club, we have not achieved that, so in that respect it has not been good enough.
BM: Are you somebody who will try his utmost with this club to still achieve success?
RvP: Well yes, I have been there eight years of course, and I am proud of that, and at the end of the season we will calmly sit down with the manager and the chairman [I assume he means Gazidis] and we will have a ‘nice cup of coffee’ (in Dutch: ‘dan gaan wij een bakkie doen’, which could not be more Dutch if you tried), all of us together, nice and cosy (in Dutch: ‘gezellig’ referring to a very friendly/informal sort of meeting/conversation).
BM: Because I feel you have become a ‘club player’ over there…
RvP: Yes, I am a real Gunner, which goes without saying, I have been there eight years, I love this club, that is no secret, and that will always stay like that.
BM: Therefore, would leaving now be ‘blasphemy’?
RvP: Well once again, at the end of the season, we are going to have a calm/relaxed talk about it, and then we are going to talk about a number of things, which I do regularly with the manager, and because of that occasion [contract talks] the chairman will be there as well.
BM: You are going to make the final decision then [at that meeting]?
RvP: Dan gaan we een bakkie doen: that is when we are going to have a nice cup of coffee.

Re: Latest Arsenal Rumours
Arsenal are set to trump Tottenham for Ajax defender Jan Vertonghen.
The Sunday Mirror says Vertonghen made a secret visit to London last Tuesday and was at the Emirates to watch Arsenal’s thrilling 3-0 Champions League win over AC Milan.
Vertonghen met up with his close friend and international team-mate Thomas Vermaelen, now back from injury and playing for the Gunners.
He told Vermaelen he was massively impressed by the football Arsenal produced.

Re: Latest Arsenal Rumours
Arsenal's spending won't end with FC Cologne star Lukas Podolski.
The Sunday Mirror says there are four major signings on manager Arsene Wenger’s shopping list – Ajax defender Jan Vertongen, Germany internationals Podolski and Mario Goetze, of Borussia Dortmund , and Athletic Bilbao’s powerful midfielder Javier Martinez.
Arsenal are close to sealing a £12m deal with Cologne for striker Podolski, who is out of contract in June 2013.
Goetze, an attacking midfielder at Borussia Dortmund, will cost around £20m, while a similar fee will land 23-year-old Martinez from Bilbao.
Martinez is a 6ft 3in defensive midfielder, who also plays centre-back. He was outstanding in Bilbao’s 3-2 Europa League win over Manchester United last week.

Re: Latest Arsenal Rumours
You sure that guy wasn't describing his Football Manager game?
Not sure what we need Vertonghen for. Can't see how we'd give Vermaelen, Koscielny, Mertesacker and Vertongham all sufficient amount of games unless one of them moves to full back. And you don't want to be fidling about with your backline too much, either.
Matias Suarez I can see for added depth, but Holtby might be a bit excessive. Great talent, but it's not like we're short of wingers and to play him in his preferred AMC role we'll have to drop one of Wilshere, Ramsey or Arteta.
Depth is great, but you don't want to be denying young talents their opportunities in the side with another young talent.

To good to be true. The only deal that seems to be happening is Podolski's deal, other than that is pure BS.MJGunner wrote:Lewis Holtby and Matias Suaréz done deals, Vertonghen close to agreeing
